Schwarber is going to test the Cubs' resolve to try him as a catcher, because as a hitter he's as ML-ready as Bryant was a year ago.

I suspect the experiment to make him a full-time catcher ends after this season, and he's the guy we're checking off Xs on the calendar for service time next April. He's a starting LF who can be a third catcher on the roster and a lefty power bat with patience and high contact rate - that's plenty to be excited about.

Nope, he's a catcher. If he were in any other org, then yes, he would be a LF/1B/DH. Thing is, we have a 1B, can't have a DH and most likely will need LF for Bryant. It's in our best interest to make him a catcher.

Got to have good enough pitching to make up for any framing issues, that bat at the C is just too much of an impact.

I'm pretty sure Schwarber will end up being at least an average framer back there. Dude is going to do whatever the Cubs ask of him to get better, and the front office thinks they've figured out how to teach pitch framing.

Anyway, this was said just yesterday. Doesn't sound like anything they'll be backing off on to me.

On how Kyle Schwarber has looked defensively

“It’s been a great year of development for him. And this is no knock on anyone that was at Indiana but just what he had to do receiving wise to catch what we feel is at the Major League level in time, he’s worked his tail off. You see it every single day now. When he was in big league camp he was catching [Jake] Arrieta and all of those guys there. He’s got tremendous hands and he’s moving very well behind the plate. Last night he had a sub-2 throwing time on a runner down to second base. So the process has been great with him. I know I can speak for all of us in the organization, we feel very confident that he is going to be able to catch in the Major Leagues and be a force at the plate.”

Was that his dad? Some context please.

Justin Steele tossed three innings of one-hit shutout ball and Eloy Jimenez drove-in all three Cub runs with a two-run single and a sacrfice fly, as the Cubs and Giants played to a 3-3 tie on Field #1...

Javy Baez played second-base for five innings and batted five times for the Cubs. He struck out (swinging) on three pitches his first time up, laced a line-drive double into the LF corner on a 2-0 pitch and later scored in his second AB, struck out (looking) on three pitches his third time up, roped a line-drive single to center on an 0-1 pitch in his fouth Plate Appearance, and flied out to deep RF on a 3-0 pitch in his final AB. He handled four chances flawlessly in the field.

Prior to the Cactus League EXST game, RHPs Dylan Cease and Erling Moreno squared-off in a two inning intrasquad "sim" game on Field #4. Both pitchers are rehabbing from a 2014 elbow UCL transplant (Tommy John surgery).

I thought you were talking about our Kyle and I spent a good minute thinking of how we were going to break the terrible news to you.

Most of the problem areas are in the upper half.
