Make your choice for the Cubs 2015 #19 prospect.

Cast votes for the players you think would be deserving at #19. You can vote for up to two players. This is done because at this point, there will start to be greater diversity in whom people may feel is deserving. Voting for multiple players helps to gain greater resolution in the voting when there are many choices and relatively few voters. Ideally, the votes would be weighted, but that isn't possible with the board software.

If you want to have a player added to the list, please say so.

Cease and Steele.

From TCR's AZ Phil (4/14/15) - "RHP Dylan Cease (2014 TJS surgery) threw "live" BP on Field #4 today, two "innings" (30 pitches). Cease was outstanding (lots of swings & misses and weak contact).

Tim, could you add Jeremy Null? If his start today can match his first start, I want to vote for him! :) (Jinx!) Was a control, low-walks guy in college, but had good K-rate too. Apparently pitched last college spring with an injury of some type; perhaps otherwise he'd have drafted way higher. Drafted young, so despite being a college draftee he'll pitch all this summer at age 21, so age is not against him. Tall guy, 6'7", and perhaps there's still a little more velocity projection left from last draft spring? A low 90's 2-seamer with good control, a guy can win a lot of games with that. Cubs people apparently like him a lot.

For now, I'll vote Steele and Cease. Steele seems like he may be a solid control guy, and again a low-90's good control lefty can have a long career.

Cease obviously has the most explosive arm we've got, pre-surgery, and reasons to think that may be true or become true again post-surg. No clue whether he'll have any control or any breaking pitches. But it's been a while since the Cubs had a real power-arm rotation prospect, so until he proves otherwise, I'm hoping he'll work out.

It looks like Steele and Cease might fall 20th and 21st on this list, and that got me thinking. One, not only is the Cubs organization incredibly deep with quality talent right now, but a rather impressive amount of that talent was added just last year.

#2 Addison Russell

#4 Kyle Schwarber

#6 Billy McKinney

#7 Gleyber Torres

#11 Jen-Ho Tseng

#12 Jake Stinnett

#13 Mark Zagunis

#14 Eloy Jimenez

#16 Carson Sands

#17 Victor Caratini

That's 10 of the top 17 prospects, including 4 of the top 7, all added in one season. Nice. Add in Steele, Cease, Jeremy Null, Kevonte Mitchell, Wladimir Galindo, Johan Matos and Jeferson Mejia and that's quite the one year influx of talent. Thank you Theo, Jed and Jason!

Weren't Torres, Tseng and Jimenez all part of the 2013 IFA class?

Yes, but they debuted on the field last season. It was our first chance to see how they performed, and so many of them performed surprisingly well.
