@CubsFutures

Bryant could win the HR/RBI/R Triple Crown for all of MiLB:

HR - 1st (39)

RBI - 2nd (100)

R - 2nd (107)

What's the most home runs ever hit in a minor league season by a real prospect?

I have no idea how to go about searching/sorting that nor want to spend the time, but just by a few random name searches of somewhat recent big prospects single season highs.

Stanton- 39 in A ball

Fielder- 28 AAA (PCL)

Wil Myers (when he was considered a big prospect)- 37

Trout- 11

Harper- 17

Longoria- 26

Rizzo- 26

J. Upton- 18

Braun- 22

A. Gordon- 29

Tony Lazzeri hit .355 with 60 home runs and 222 RBI as a 21 year old in the Pacific Coast League, but he was unaffiliated with a major league org at the time (he signed with the Yankees and was on that 1927 team with the monster offense).

Ron Kittle hit 50 home runs for Edmonton in the PCL as a 24 year old.

Four more strikeout less PAs please.

Four more strikeout less PAs please.

So he's under 20% in his last 101 PA?

That would be correct

his contact rate (64%) isn't any better for August, so his recent K avoidance is a bit of a mystery

one nice sign though, is he swung at pitches outside of the zone 27% of the time in June, but has dropped that figure to 12% and 13% in the two months since

so he's swinging at very significantly fewer pitches out of the zone but his contact rate overall has remained fairly steady?

Steady contact rate with declining OSwing% seemed like a bad thing to me at first take (would seem to suggest he was missing more in the zone), but ZCon% is pretty stable as well (73.9%, 75.4%, 75.8% for June, July & August, respectively). It would appear he's just missing a larger percent of those pitches outside the zone that he's offering at (OCon%: 17.9%, 11.1%, 7.1%). I would think that that's a good thing (to the extent that swinging and missing can be a good thing); it should translate to less poorly contacted balls.

Fair point. Obviously the best thing would be to avoid swinging at bad pitches entirely. But given that he's badly missing junk balls as opposed to hittable pitches, it would appear to call into question his discipline more than his contact skills. The former (to me, at least) seems less a red flag than the latter, especially given his fairly robust walk rate.
