I'm not trying to claim a positive spin, I'm saying that the disingenuous arguments about it are obnoxious.

But it's not necessarily disingenuous; it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the financial restrictions inspired an "oh well"-approach to at least one of the last two seasons.

Regarding the "financial restrictions" do you people believe that Ricketts has imposed these because 1) he doesn't have any money or 2) the cubs (and wrigley) as a business are unable to generate enough cash flow to improve the stadium and spend on the big league team?

And regarding the thing about 13 previously bad teams making a jump to the playoffs since 2007: how many previously good teams made the playoffs and how many previously bad teams state bad.

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 8m

Heading on ESPN1000 in about 30 min to discuss Cubs and financial stuff. Tune in and nerd up.

That would make it about 20 min from now.

What's nerd up mean?

Somebody ask him if the "financial restrictions" are stayin within the MLB 8x cash flow leverage from his article? Because that's pretty much a financial restriction for every business everywhere.

Its one thing to complain how about how the cubs got to be in this position, but isn't the bad news that the payroll will not increase significantly for 4 more years? That means that the business side is way behind the baseball side, and there will not be any money to sign arms to go with our cheap, young bats.

The bulk of the revenue increases won’t be hitting the books until 2019 or later. In other words, we may not see the organization’s vision and might fully realized for another five years.

Isn't the whole article about how theres not room for much payroll increase? Wrigley renovations and TV money are not coming soon. He had revenue at 300M and expenses at 264M with a 100M payroll.

There's going to be tv money before 2019. There will just be more of it thereafter. Also, the revenue generating components of the renovations will be the first to be completed. How those Wrigley funds are deployed and how much goes to paying for renovations vs just going to the team is anybody's guess.

I would be beyond surprised if payroll doesn't increase from where it is now in a way that is significant until 2019.

The cubs just aren't going to be this financial behemoth that they will be until then.
