So with Hester gone, do the Bears default the PR/KR to Weems? Does anyone think they will draft a WR/KR in the draft this year?

Weems did not impress me in the least. He's also got to be close to 30, is he still on the team?

Haven't they had Earl Bennett do some returns before?

Is Earl Bennett even on the team next year?

He's 29 and has one more year. I agree that he isn't a good returner anymore though I thought he was a good STer.

Didn't he have a few bad penalties?

Urlacher is turning into a giant Bears troll in the media.

Hearing the Lance Briggs interview this morning, he seemed pretty depressed about the drastic defensive changing of the guard. I'd assume hes next to go after Tillman/Peppers.

Maybe not...but he hasn't been cut yet, has he?

Crap, he might have. I remember Walters' bad ST penalty against Pittsburgh and Bowman racking up a few but didn't remember Weems committing any.

I believe the "bad" penalty was an offside on an onsides attempt late in the Redskins game...and if I recall, it was a bad call.

At the end of December the Bears signed Chris Williams, a WR who used to play for Hamilton in the CFL and actually set the record for return touchdowns in a single season (6). So I'm guessing he's going to be given a shot to be the return man.

Yes, I think he's the leading candidate to be the return man next season short of Justin Gilbert or DeAnthony Thomas getting drafted.

I think Michael Ford may get a shot to return kicks also, depending on how much they plan to involve him in the offense.

I'm guessing Earl Bennett gets cut. He's owed no guaranteed money and he's still good enough to be the #3 WR, but they probably want to get Marques Wilson in that role sooner rather than later. It would save them a couple million, but be moreso to get Wilson on the field.

I don't know that Weems gets cut. He may luck out with all the special team stalwarts like McManis, Castonzo, Bowman, and Steltz all being free agents. He's pretty good at what he does, seems to enjoy doing it without the need to play on one of the other phases, and he could be the insurance in the slot if Wilson isn't ready.

Was that him? I remember it being a cheap penalty, but not really a "bad" call. Sort of a letter/spirit of the law thing.

I remember being impressed with Weems a few times and disappointed more than I expected from a supposed ST ace.

Not the first time someone has said this

Kyle Long ‏@Ky1eLong 28m

“@AndrewPappas24: @Ky1eLong who is the best hooper on the bears?” I would say Jay Cut in terms of pure baler status

I've seen him dunk, but not show any handles or shot. I find it hard to believe he's better than Marty b or Werewolf.

Yeah, Martellus was a 4 star basketball recruit who at one point actually declared for the NBA draft out of hs, though he did withdraw.

dumb question but do the Bears have to cut Peppers (or anyone else) before they sign someone to take them over the cap? There's no penalty on Peppers' contract in particular to force us to cut him by a certain date, correct?

@BradBiggs: Sources: #Bears and #Seahawks DE Michael Bennett have mutual interest. http://t.co/KEkAkrtK3z

If we sign him, can one of the 3 sports talk stations in town get a Michael and Martellus Bennett show going? I might listen to that even if goes head to head with the Jay Cutler Show (and that's hard to say because the Cutty show is [expletive] awesome)

@ESPNChiBears: #Bears called about free agent DE Michael Johnson on Saturday, per sources. @GoesslingESPN reported 7 teams so far interested in Johnson.

A taste of what that could be

Martellus Bennett ‏@MartysaurusRex Mar 7

So I have a brand new tv segment on @NFL_AM that starts on Monday. And my co-star will be my brother @mosesbread72 getting excited.

I believe you wouldn't have to cut Julius until June 1st, but I may be wrong.

ESPN Chicago confirms free agent DT Henry Melton will test the open market.

Per reporter Michael C. Wright, Melton already has "multiple suitors." Free agency's top defensive tackle, Melton is likely going to command more money than the cash-strapped Bears can afford. He's coming off October ACL surgery, but is one of the best three-techniques in the game when healthy.
