so your point is that people who aren't interested in something don't have interest in that thing.

that's still a terrible comparison. the NHL is considered to be one of the 4 major sports in america. it has a long, storied history with a very strong following. the mls has been around for like 20 years and is not close to being in the same class as the NHL. i think you're underestimating how big the NHL following is just because you aren't around it.

should have just said it's akin to the bulls being good for someone who doesn't like football.

I'm not so sure that's an apt comparison.

My take on it is that while I was in Chicago during most of the Bulls run, I didn't get much out it because I was indifferent*. But you have to be a sociopath to aggressively hate them like nuts does the Blackhawks.

*I did get enjoyment while living in NY and witnessing Knicks fans displeasure at the Bulls success.

Not really fair to just peg N&G for this...David is pretty aggressive about hating the Blackhawks/hockey as well.

How can anyone in Chicago not be a Blackhawks fan at this point? Like they're really the only team worth watching.

I take it you probably hate soccer; what if the Chicago soccer team was the only good team in town? That's what it's like when the Blackhawks are good.

there were years when the fire were the best team in Chicago (1999-2000) and no one gave a [expletive]. When the Blackhawks won the Cup 2 million people showed up to celebrate.

I'm not arguing/don't care which is more popular; I was responding to the guy wondering why someone in Chicago wouldn't be a Blackhawks fan. If you dislike hockey then the city's hockey team being good is akin to the Fire being good for someone that doesn't like soccer.

This was really simple: guy wonders aloud how anyone in Chicago could not be a Blackhawks fan. I said to picture a team in a sport you don't like winning it all and I only picked soccer because it seemed to be the major sport that a good chunk of the board here likely doesn't like to follow or watch or just doesn't care about, same as I feel about hockey. It had zero to do with how much more popular one is over the other.

My "aggressiveness" in disliking hockey amounts to little more than taking shots at it here; it really isn't on my radar at all otherwise. I don't actively hate it like I hate college sports....that's a hate that burns bright and true.

a lot of soccer people hate hockey because it's so much more nuanced and it just burns them up.

Soccer is just like hockey but with 10x fewer scoring chances and more crying

I can enjoy soccer, but the game speed is much much slower.

the Hawks acquired big Derwood to play goalie for them.

say who with the what now?

Jason Labarbera; continuing his quest to be a bad goalie on every team in the league before retiring and presumably becoming an analyst for the NHL network.

I'm getting about sick of these games being on local WGN only.

Hell, I pay for Center Ice but when the games are on WGN I can only get the visitors broadcast for some reason. That pisses me off.

I'm not gonna pay for Center Ice for a handful of regular season games each year. I live in central Illinois...I shouldn't be missing any Chicago sports games. It's just these and a few CLTV Cubs games (although sometimes those are simulcast locally.)

Yeah that's annoying. That LA guy last night was a snooze.

They were pretty boring; I agree.

In their defense, the game was the same thing over and over again. Kings get puck, Hawks take it back, Hawks hold the puck in the offensive zone for 5 minutes, Kings fail to clear.

The Dallas announcers are the best. The Caps are the absolute worst though Detroit are pretty bad too.
