Winter Classic was a fun game. Any danger that the Stadium Series takes the shine off the WC?

May be, but outweighed by the NHL's need to showcase itself.

I agree, fun to watch.

And as I was watching, I did get the feeling that the extra outdoor games might be overkill. Before I was all in favor. I guess we'll know next January when the WC is apparently going to be at Nationals Park.

Wish they'd figure out how to get fans closer to the ice. Looks cool on TV, but it would suck having "front row tickets" that were 50+ feet from the ice. The game in Wrigley looked ridiculous

I also thought the camera was too far away from the rink. Too much of the near side of the ice was hidden.

The best shots were from the over-ice football cam

I agree, not sure why they didn't do more shots from that cam. Got to see most of the action and was able to follow the puck much easier.

In general, the "sideline cam" is about the worst view for hockey, yet that's what they use 85% of the broadcast.

Honestly, Torts wasn't in the wrong here at first. Calgary starts their "idiots," as Sestito put it. What is Van to do? You can't throw the sisters and Burrows out there to take ass kickings.

As for his efforts to get at Hartley in the intermission, yes, he'll get called to the carpet for that.

By the way, I'd be [expletive] pissed if I went to a game and this [expletive] happens. I can understand the occasional fight in hockey. I don't like it...I wish it wasn't there, but this is the kind of [expletive] that makes me want hockey to really get rid of fighting.

Why did Calgary send those guys out there to start?

of course they can. guys like brian mcgrattan are not going to just go out and try to goon it up against the sedins. that's not how hockey players go about their business.

tortorella had the final change and could have started his top line, instead he started his goons and d-men who will fight. he bears as much responsibility as hartley does. tortorella is a good coach but he's always been a complete and utter knob.

worst defensive sequence ever?

How many defensemen did LA have on the ice though? Marchand is really on quite the tear. I know I've heard it said that Shaw is the Blackhawks' Marchand, but as much as I like Shaw, he can't do some of the things I've seen Marchand do in the last couple of games.

Any rumblings on the trade market? Columbus is loaded with young talent, and has won 7 straight to play their way into a playoff spot. The Gaborik trade was big, the Horton signing is paying off (now that he's on the ice), so they seem to be in a good position to make another splash.

Not exactly rumblings, but talk:

The Jackets are on an impressive run. They were being written off a month ago.

This year is weird for trades because there are almost two deadlines:

Thanks for the article. The writer does make good points about whether to just leave them alone since they are clearly coming together as a team right now and a new player (esp. an older vet) might disrupt that. That said, the addition of Gaborik really sparked the team last year, and Horton has been a huge addition this year.
