Jorge Soler is expected to be listed on Tuesday night's Daytona Cubs lineup card, but you won't be seeing his name in the box score.

While Soler's five-game Florida State League suspension has ended and he is still on Daytona's roster, he has not returned to the team.

Daytona manager Dave Keller said he will put the outfielder's name on the lineup card for Tuesday night's road game against the Clearwater Threshers. But Keller said there is no word as to when Soler might rejoin the team.

“He's not here with us in Clearwater,” Keller said in a phone interview. “He's on the roster, but I don't know when he's coming back.”

Jason McLeod, Chicago's director of player development and scouting, said last week the organization condemned the act but was supporting the player. As to when Soler would return to the D-Cubs, McLeod said, “When we feel that he's ready to get back on the field and compete from all aspects -- physically and mentally.”

If there's a bigger problem - and grabbing a bat and heading toward the other dugout with (it's fair to assume) the intent to hit people with it suggests that there is - if there is a bigger problem, I hope they're taking the time now to try and address it. If it means he misses a couple more games, no biggie.

That's just weird.

What part is weird?

That he's off suspension, back on the roster, listed on the lineup card but nobody knows when he'll be allowed to return to the team.

I guess we could pretend that's not weird, if you'd prefer.

I don't think he ever left the roster, did he? I wasn't paying close enough attention to see if MiLB teams are allowed a replacement for suspended players.

The writing on the lineup card could be weird I guess, or it could be required for some odd rules reason, I dunno. Maybe it's an implicit reminder to the rest of the team that composure matters. Neither strikes me as all that odd personally, but to each their own.

Its strikes me as some sort of amateur psychiatric treatment.

I was just wondering what part you found weird, because I found the part where the manager listed an unavailable reserve on his lineup card weird (did he expect Soler to arrive in Florida in the 7th inning to save the day?).

I'm guessing he has to do something down in Mesa (Anger management? Meet some other requirements of Jed and Theo's before he's back in Daytona) so I don't think it's weird Daytona's manager doesn't know when Soler will be back.

I was saying I thought the whole thing was weird. Being written in but not actually there. Not knowing when he may be available. The apparent unofficial addition to the suspension, which indicates they think they can change the guy's personality by sending a message. The entire open ended nature of the situation.

I would have expected them to send him back to the team with a mandate to play and not be a douche.

He was reinstated on their roster yesterday. The transaction previous to that just stated that Daytona changed his roster status with no additional detail.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Jorge Soler will be back in a Daytona Cubs uniform and in the starting lineup for Thursday night's home game against the Tampa Yankees, a Chicago Cubs official said Wednesday.

The recently suspended outfielder -- one of the top prospects in the minors -- will be back “ready to go,” according to Chicago Cubs farm director Brandon Hyde.

“Jorge will be there (Thursday),” Hyde told The News-Journal in a phone interview Wednesday. “It's time for him to get back to playing.”

The Cubs open a three-game series Thursday against the Yankees with all the games at Jackie Robinson Ballpark scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

Maybe they just wanted him to debut at home, not in a more *hostile* environment. Just spitballing.

Not crazy, but I'm not sure how hostile a minor league park would be unless it was the one where the incident took place.

That could be it. Incident was at home against Clearwater, and right now they're in Clearwater until Thursday.

As it turns out, Daytona is indeed playing the same team, Clearwater. Avoid him facing the same player a week later seems to make sense.

Uh, yeah. Weirdness retracted. Now back to just a bit odd with the roster/lineup comments by the manager.
