John Axford is basically the Marmol of the North. What is it with The Brewers and guys that come out of nowhere for one season as a lights out closer and then turn back into pumpkins?

Who was the one year wonder about 10 years ago and went to the Braves and sucked?

Dan Kolb. I remember rumors that we were interested in him before the Brewers traded him to Atlanta.

To be fair, we did have our own one of those in Joe Borowskie. Nite: until just now lookin up Joe's career stats, I thought that he was a rookie when we first brought him up, but apparently he'd kicked around between the Yankees and Orioles since '95.

Besides their closers, a few years back they also had a set up man they plucked from an indie league that baffled hitters with a Shingo-style 50 mph change up until they started torching it.

The Brewers have had Kolb, Turnbow, Cordero (he was known but awful in Texas when they got him), and now Axford come out of nowhere and become elite closers for somewhere between 1-2 years and then just crash and burn within the last decade.
