Watkins with a homer. Off to a really nice start.

Rather see him in Chicago than the craptacular duo they've been throwing out there.

 

Yeah, I'm really not sure what they're saving him for. God forbid Brent Lillibridge don't get as much PT as possible. Besides, Watkins future is likely as a utility man, so it's not like he's a prospect who absolutely must play every game if he's called up.

Well... I'm not the biggest Watkins guy, but if the walk rate improvement is legitimate and he can become more consistent offensively (off the top, he's streaky at times, getting hot in the summer, IIRC), there's enough there to think that he could be a solid starting 2nd baseman. As a result, I don't think they want to call him up unless he's getting regular AB's.

*Shrug* We'll find out. You're absolutely right that if it's nothing, it'll bear out over the season. Somehow, if it was 10 BB in the same time period, you'd find the tidbit a lot more interesting and less objectionable.

Perhaps. But depending on when Barney returns, if he were to be called up he should be given plenty of playing time. One of Lillibridge and Gonzalez would likely be cut to make room for him, and there's no reason that the other should be given playing time over him. At this point, I can't imagine him being any type of downgrade from those two.
