"My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used," Cabrera said in a statement released by the players' union. "I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down."

Well he didn't try to minimize it.

I guess I'll applaud the honesty.

He turned down an extension not too long ago as well.

He's 1 PA shy of qualifying for the batting title. He can still win it with an adjusted BA (extra 0-1). McCutchen is at .359 and Votto .342.

he denied it a few weeks ago. he was only honest after he was already exposed.

Yeah, even still he's more honest than most in this situation. Most use the supplement excuse.

At least he admits it even if he denied it at first.

Yeah either "some guy in a black van handed me a supplement/weird energy drink and I used it" or "I got a doctor's prescription for it" are the usual excuses.

Not too surprised about this. When a mediocre player suddenly turns into a superstar, it's usually not just a player suddenly discovering how to hit.

Really?

sometimes it's a player turning 27 and hitting their prime.

I'm not seeing much of a curve here. It's a cliff. And it happened right after a 2010 season where he was notoriously out of shape.
