Yeah, I doubt they even give him a ton of starts in September, but if he keeps this up, he's going to get a legit shot at 3rd next year for sure. Probably to the point they don't look outside the organization for him some comp either. Just him, Valbuena, and probably Stewart. With it being Vitters job to lose, if he keeps this up.

you really think they'll tender stewart?

If they think his wrist issues might finally be cleared up, why the heck not?

I love Vitters' OPS by month.

April: .611 (74 PA)

May: .884 (115 PA)

June: .970 (116 PA)

July: 1.159 (14 PA - before tonight)

He's making 2.2 mill this year and they only have to offer him 80% of that through arb. My guess is he'd take it, because he may not get that on the open market. As to why we'd do it(assuming he's healthy by then) our payroll likely will be very low anyway and if he hits, he'd be an asset of some use. But if he's healthy, you may as well try and rebuild any possible value you can.

chris pieters (350k international signee) seems to have some command problems - 21 BB in 16 K for DSL cubs 2.

also, mark malave and luis acosta really aren't putting up the type of performances you'd hope for from 7-figure signings, though they're both young.

on the other hand, carlos rodriguez (120k bonus) continues to be really good. more than 1 K per inning, not too many walks, has gone at least 5 innings in all of his outings and hasn't allowed more than 1 earned run in any of them.

Who the [expletive] is Encarnacion?

20-year old OF Kevin Encarnacion, who is in the DSL for the 4th straight year.
