Lake is 4/4 with a double and a SB, he's now up to .320 on the year and a .856 OPS.

Edit: he's also playing 3b. I haven't followed him position wise (assumed he was still at short) but has he gotten many reps over there this year?

This is his 11th game at 3B this year, 25 at SS.

He's heated back up with the bat too. .444 over his last 9 games with 3 walks and only 4Ks. The walks are significant because I don't think he had more than 1 over the 2 weeks before this stretch.

Jin-Young Kim starting for the AZL Cubs. Still no Vogelbach.

I haven't really looked at everyone's farm in depth, but we may actually have the best position player talent in the minors. Maybe even if we assume Rizzo's graduating. Assuming Almora signs, we've got 3 top 50 types in Soler, Almora, and Baez, 2 other possible top 100 guys in Brett and Szczur, 2 guys showing progress and very talented in Vitters and Lake, a potential young stud in Candelario, young middle infielders with potential in Hernandez, Amaya, Torreyes, and Alcantara, and a pair of bonus guys in Acosta and Malave.

Gotta love the middle IF guys. Those last 4 you named, Lake and Baez is a pretty strong group, especially when you consider Barney and Castro are in their pre-arb years also. Throw in Jackson, Almora and Szczur all being capable of playing CF, if the old adage is true about being strong up the middle....the Cubs could be in really good shape in the future.

Is hawks rained out or something? I just tried tuning in to milb.tv and it's stuck on the same logo screen for 7+ minutes.

No. El Duderino posted that there were technical problems yesterday too.

Ok thanks guys. It's too bad, some interesting guys there. Cali(something), Bruno is already there. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

I say we go for the killshot and blow our IFA budget on Gustavo Cabrera.

Jeimer Candelario. Remember that name.

i've thought about that too actually. I can't decide between that or spreading it out between 5-6 pitchers. But I'm leaning towards Cabrera too. That said, my guess is we do neither and get a couple of higher end guys, to go along with lots of low hundred thousand bonus types.

Rock Shoulders now has 25 plate appearances for Boise. 17 of them have been three true outcomes(7 BB, 9 K, 1 HR).

I just asked Badler if he thought Cabrera goes for over 2 mill and he said it'd surprise him. That seals the deal for me. Perfect IFA period for me is Cabrera at 2, a 500k pitcher, a pair of 200k pitchers, and filling out the rest of whatever we sign with 50k guys that don't count against your budget. Can't remember for sure how it works, but teams can spend 3.2 without paying penalties is all I remember.

I still have hope for him.

I just asked him....

Soler, over any July 2 kid, by a wide margin RT @ryguy210 If you had a choice and money was equal, would you take Soler or Gustavo Cabrera?

Surprised me a tiny bit. I expected Soler, but wasn't sure it was by a wide margin. Oh well, good for us.

Surprised me a bit. I expected Soler, but I thought it would be a bit closer. Oh well, good for us.

Makes sense. A 16-year old Dominican IFA is so much further away and so much riskier.

someone pretending to be hayden simpson has struck out 6 batters in 3 hitless innings while walking just 1.

this would almost be exciting if it wasn't in boise

beef welington came out of the i-cobs game in the 3rd inning. looks like there was a sac fly in the previous frame, so maybe he was hurt during a play at the plate.

Crap, we're a Soto or Clevenger injury away from being forced to pry you know who back from the Nationals.

I told you he looked good.

This is also true.

But I will remind you that Burke worked as a situational relief pitcher for Boise last year too (and he looked good). But having said that one should not get excited until he pitches like this at a higher level.

Another unexpected pleasant surprise is Rock's plate discipline. What TT posted is unreal and he's walked again since then.
