I didn't want to rehash any old running topics, but was wondering if anyone is running the warrior dash near Joliet today. I've never done one before, but it looks fun. Not as challenging as a tough mudder (or even a spartan run), but more challenging than a normal 5k. I have zero upper body strength and I'm still about 20lbs overweight, so some of the wall climb stuff should be interesting.

I did it in SoCal. None of the obstacles were that challenging. There were people who looked like they'd have trouble walking a 5K on a flat course, and they did fine.

I'm kind of afraid of heights, and that was the hardest part for me. Even though the obstacles aren't that high (maybe 25 feet for the tallest?), I get skittish up there. Crawling over the horizontal cargo net was awkward, but it wasn't hard.

Anyway, I'm betting you'll be fine. And it was a pretty fun time. People are there just having a blast.

There's another race coming up here in LA, some kind of zombie run. I believe it's a 5K with obstacles, but you also have flags (like from flag football) on your waist. As you run, people in zombie makeup chase after you and try to snag your flags. If you finish with at least one flag, you're eligible for prizes.

I thought this was going to be Ultimate Warrior related.

I wore neon colored strands of cloth tied around my arms to honor the fellow from Parts Unknown.

My brother-in-law and I are doing a zombie run next year. We didn't find out about it soon enough and all the zombie slots were full.

As for the Warrior Dash, it wasn't too bad. The heat was pretty brutal, and we walked over a mile and a half to get there (to avoid paying the $20 parking fee. We're cheap). Definitely know what I'd do differently next time.

After having some time to reflect on the Warrior Dash, I must say, it wasn't TOO challenging. The heat was rough, but the obstacles were all manageable and the distance (3.2 miles) was nothing extreme. I'm looking into doing the Spartan Run in Marseilles, Il in October now. It's an 8 mile run with more (and more challenging) obstacles.
