Luis Acosta and Mark Malave, the Cubs two $1 million bonus babies made their pro debuts this morning in the DSL. Acosta was brilliant.

@BenBadler Definitely. But he sure isn't sticking at shortstop RT @Jeffster130 Luis Acosta a guy to look out for in DSL? 3/5 3 2Bs.

Since when does swinging 3-0 make it OK to drill someone?

when it's an 11 run lead.

like it or not, swinging for the fences on a 3-0 pitch when you're leading in a blowout is frowned upon, and if you're going to do that, you'd better be willing to get drilled.

OK, I totally had no idea what the score was.

I hope Baez's response was that he'll do whatever the [expletive] he wants.

lol, from an exchange between nate baliva and kevin goldstein, it sounds like the opposing manager went right out to the mound after baez swung 3-0, and after a quick meeting, the pitcher immediately hit baez. just a BIT obvious there. i'd expect the manager to get a suspension for that.

@PeoChiefsGame Baez swung 3 & 0. Manager walked to the mound for a visit. Next pitch drills Baez. Pitcher ejected. Hope Manager too. baez calmly to 1st.

@Kevin_Goldstein Every scout and every pitcher behind home plate agrees. Baez deserved that one.

People associated with pro baseball are dumb as [expletive] with their unwritten rules.

Whatever, helps his OBP.

Hah! Exactly, was thinking the same thing.

it's a pain in the ass, but pretty much everyone knows not to do it. baez has a choice - swing at that pitch and get hit (or get the next hitter beaned, if he gets on base or homers), or don't swing.

Oh, I know, but I think it's still dumb.

Won't be the first time Baez gets HBP for doing something like that.

Rizzo single. He's now 2/3 with a double and single.

Vitters OPS up to .822.

i can't imagine that he'd be up with the big club before september, so it will actually be nice to have him stay at one level, so we can see if this is just a hot streak or the result of real adjustments. seems like every other year he gets hot for like 3 weeks, the cubs spaz out and move him up a level.

And even if this turns into an extended streak, there will be worries that it is PCL-fueled.
