Geesh, I stop following the game for a second, and Peralta got tagged. Guess the control problems he had last year are still there. Granted, looks like Javier Baez's error really hampered things, but still. ouch.

He actually walked 2 in his first inning of work too. Some really rough control issues tonight.

Was it really only a couple years ago when there was some relatively hope on the group of young arms coming through XST? Man ... so many have fallen and can't get up. Reed and Liria are in the pen, Jin Yeong Kim is toiling away in XST still, Cruz is demoted to XST, Paulino ... heck, I don't remember what's going on with him right now (injury?), and Peralta seems to, along with Wells, the last ones standing with a legitimate shot of developing into a starter, and Peralta comes with his heavy bag of control woes. Heck, some people even had hope on Su-min Jung. And for some reason, I thought Marcos Perez and Jean Sandoval were mildly intriguing, but for the life of me, I can't remember why right now.

Granted, it's not like I expected all these guys to develop into intriguing arms ... but I had hoped a few of them would be interesting into, say, High A. Of course, Rosario wasn't really on the radar until late last year, so he's been a nice surprise, and I guess Jose Arias is next man up.

Seems like so long ago ...

Yeah, Paulino had TJS last year. I haven't lost hope in Peralta but the rest (besides Wells) have really fizzled or already been converted to the pen. But you're right, Rosario is about as intriguing as we thought any of the other Latin arms might have been.

I like Hatley to, but when it comes to relief prospects, unless they have closer stuff are going to tend to not get the attention of other prospects. Especially in Hatley's case where there are two prospects in his pen that are more intriguing than he, being Rhoderick, and Cabrera who you mentioned. This being said, I wouldn't mind seeing Beliveau, Hatley, Cabrera, and Rhoderick in the 2013 pen along with Russell and Dolis. I've liked what I've seen in Parker too. Even Coleman's been pretty good in his time there, though he simply doesn't seem to have the stuff of the others.

Hatley has better stuff than Rhoderick.

Baez ends up 0/3 with 3 Ks and an HBP. :(

He has struck out in half his Peoria ABs.

I like Rhoderick a ton ... but I'm still not convinced there's enough on the fastball for him to be a dominant late inning arm (there's definitely enough on the fastball that Rhoderick could be it, but I still have my doubts). Hatley has the fastball and the power slider, but he lacks Rhoderick's consistency right now. I tend to think of Rhoderick as more Michael Wuertz-ish.

I've never seen any of the three in action, so I just go by the number. But hey, I'll take Michael Wuertz-ish from a lesser bullpen prospect. The things that we seem to have no shortage of in the system are high ceiling latin American middle infielders, relievers with back end potential, and toolsy Center Fielders. That and slugging 1st Baseman who are sure to hit Iowa by their late 20's.

Baez is probably trying too hard. I don't know if the Cubs or any team has a staff sport psychologist, but it would be interesting to have a couple at the lower levels for when these kids get called up.

That would be interesting to know if the Cubs or any teams have them on staff (or even on retainer/private contract). But just my guess on knowing what I know about Baez's personality through 2nd, 3rd and 4th hand reports on the internet and this board I'm guessing he'd tell any psychologist or any member of the Cubs org. who told him to see a psychologist to go [expletive] off.
