Brett Jackson also rising. 2/2 with a triple, 9th steal. Despite that horrific stretch he had, he has a .795 OPS. Edited by El Duderino

@PeoriaChiefs Baez singles to RF but is thrown out trying to stretch it into a double to end the 2nd.

Vitters HR in the 2nd.

Lord Vitters is rising!

For the moment, the Vitters HR jumps his season OPS over .750; his OPS versus RHP over .650; and his May OPS over .850. Funny how 0 HR in April and 6 in May give different OPS's.

His highest full-season OPS has been .770. So he's got a shot at that this season.

But, he's been a hot-and-cold guy all his career. There have been many times before when he got hot and I thought maybe it will be all up-and-up from here, without that happening. Hopefully this time it will. But he's probably due for another slump.

It's kind of interesting that his better month corresponds to both a reduced walk rate, and a higher K-rate. For years, his low K's, and gift for contact, has drawn notice. This month he's K'd 20 times in less than 100 AB. The K-rate over 20% seems pretty high. But when you hit a bunch of HR's, who cares? Who cares how high your K-rate is if your K/HR rate is only 10/3? Hit lots of HR's, and Vitters will make it. Not enough HR's, and his OBP/slugging/OPS will be inadequate. Not sure where the over/under is for being enough. But it's nice to see him on a HR-month.

Outstanding game pitched by Rosario today. 7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 9 GO, 3 FO. He's still figuring it out, but he's 21, a flamethrower and starting to put up games like this. This would be his 3rd really good start this month.

I can't seem to find any evidence of there being a Daytona Cubs game today. Very interested in seeing how Whitenack does...

They're in the process of being hit by a storm that's a notch below a hurricane.

EDIT - I guess they're in Brevard County, which appears to be clear of the storm by now...although they're going to get hammered by rain in the coming days.

This system needs more starts like this from young arms. Is Rosario the guy who launched The Raley Wars a couple of weeks ago (or a week ago...or a couple of days ago...yesterday?)? I hope he keeps this up as he climbs the ladder, and gets that ERA below 5 in Peoria soon. Maybe grow a couple of inches and such...

Baez went 2/4. Looks like the second hit was also a single.
