Haha. This one didn't hurt so much. Bowden is a failed project, does he have any options left or should we just cut him?

That slam had to put us over the top for most runs allowed by a bullpen this year.

edit: damn I think we're still only 4th worst. Our pen does lead all of baseball in walks allowed though!

it was a lot easier to take the wildness from our bullpen when there were a bunch of power arms who could strike out opposing hitters.

this year's bullpen has one of the worst K rates in MLB and also one of the worst walk rates. the cubs' bullpen has a K/BB ratio of 1.19 (coming into tonight's game). the next worst team is the angels at 1.68!

so yeah, this very well may be the worst bullpen in baseball.

Hector Luna and Edwin Maysonet hit grand slams off the Cubs in a period of five days. So there's that.

I bet our's might be the worst as far as runs per inning. We've gotten a lot of quality starts leaving the bullpen only so many innings to work their awful magic.

The starters gotta be quite pissed off with how many quality starts and leads the bullpen has pissed away. Except Volstad.

Volstad is happy that they're taking some of the spotlight off of his awfulness.

The rank and file of our bullpen was actually pretty solid before they started having to pitch in late innings and higher leverage situations. Maybe it's a testament to the importance of late inning relievers. Or maybe we just have a bullpen full of mop up men who aren't familiar with any other situation. Or both.

Or maybe they only have one good reliever.

Plenty of really bad pitchers have fairly decent results for a month or so at a time.
