I still wonder what happened to Felix Pie.

Meatballs like to moan about prospects that didn't pan out, but they fall into a lot of different categories.

Corey Patterson was a pretty useful player for awhile. Brooks Kieshnick wasn't really all that great of a prospect and just got hyped because there was no one else to hype. I still think Kevin Orie got BABIPed out of the league unfairly.

But I don't know what happened with Pie. Scouts loved him, he played a premium defensive position well, and he hit at every step of the minors at a relatively young age. I guess he K'd a bit too much in the minors, but nothing egregious. Then he got the majors and all of a sudden lolz can't hit at all.

Thinking back about guys like Patterson and Pie just frustrate the hell out of me, because I wonder what might have happened if they come up in a system that knew what they hell it was doing when it came to developing non-pitching prospects. By no means were they sure things, but for guys like that with so much talent and so much praise and high expectations to just fall so totally flat is pretty damning.

Just looked up his minor league numbers and saw he was playing in an independent league this season. I think it's a bit crazy that he didn't catch on with another team considering his former pedigree, his not being completely old yet, and the fact that he was a somewhat useful role player in Baltimore which was one of the toughest divisions in baseball.

And since he could field a premium position he should've made a perfectly fine backup for a number of teams. Surprised there wasn't any interest
