Ok, I've read a lot of complaining on this board. Let me explain a few things that most of you already know.

This league was set up to be friendly. This is part of the reason that the there is rule flexibility. We apply rules with reason. It seems like a few people have problems with this.

As an example is Tim's situation. Yes, he broke the rules. It doesn't make sense to take away two days of points from his team. It does make sense to rectify the situation. Some folks have pointed out that this is not enough deterrent but I think that isn't the point. Its not a punitive system. We all know each other - if someone makes a mistake we let them know and solve the problem. We don't need deterrent because we don't have players trying to take advantage by breaking the rules. If you are that kind of player, we don't want you in the league. I don't think we have anyone like that.

If you have a problem with this, let me know but I don't think its that complicated or melodramatic and its worked for 9 years.

since i'm not in tim's division i don't really care how the issue of his points was handled (though i don't see how allowing him to keep robertson is any way remotely fair), but in addition to bitching at the bitchers can we also acknowledge that there has been a ton more sloppy managing this season? i mean, like 4 teams had illegal rosters on day one. and i just happened to notice tim's roster...who knows how long that would have gone on had i not noticed it...and who knows what everyone else's roster looks like week to week.

if you want people to stop being super sticklers for the rules, how about we also tell people to clean their business up a little bit too. because the bitchers wouldn't have anything to bitch about if there wasn't so much sloppiness.

and i think taking away 2 days of his points is pretty harsh (though we kind of established that as the rule). on the other hand, taking away scott rolen's 1.5 points or whatever and allowing him to pick and choose which crappy players to drop to make his roster legal is a pretty cream puff "penalty."

I'm not bitching about the bitchers, everyone should voice their opinions. Just explaining how I see it. I understand MR's point but that isn't really the way this league has run for the last 9 years. We've always had complaining and discussions, it just seems a little more melodramatic this year.

You are correct though that we need managers to be responsive. To be honest, we have always had a few that aren't as responsive as we'd like. I'm not sure this year is that different. And we've always asked people to check their opponents roster since you are looking at it daily.

The very day I got the complaint, I dropped every player I had picked up that period that could have conceivably caused me to go illegal. I wasn't picking and choosing who to drop - I dropped who I had added. Now, I also made an additional transaction that fit within the rules during that same time period. Not sure why that one should be reversed.

Maybe truffle had a different experience, but this league is incredibly difficult to wrap your head around when you join. in part b/c there isn't one spot with all the rules, in part b/c there are different interpretations of those rules, and in part b/c the rules aren't consistently applied.

it would be easier at least for me if i just knew what all the rules were and the consequences for breaking them. for example, going over 7 starts seems to be a huge deal. there's an entire thread dedicated to identifying violators and i think the rules say the 3rd time you do it, you get kicked out. that's harsh/punitive. here, the rules are also pretty clear. i don't think i'm being a 'stickler' b/c i think the rules should just be what they are and apply to everyone. it has nothing to do with punishment or not being friendly. i've been playing fantasy baseball for a long time. i've never been in a league where someone broke a rule and the people that pointed it out and applied to consequences of that rule were deemed "bitchers" or "sticklers."

it feels a little like:

"hey, the rules say this should happen when you break this rule."

"hey asshole, why do you have to be such a dick."

"i'm confused"

"this is a friendly league so quit being so bitchy."

so if i seem a little annoyed it's b/c i have no idea how we're (truffle and abuck and i) the bad guys here. to be clear, i don't think anyone's a bad guy. it's not a personal thing against tim, it's a simple application of a rule to a violation. if you think the rules are punitive as they're applied, then change the rule after the season, but don't change it's application ad hoc.

for the record, I did not use the word bitching. I see your points MR - a few weeks ago I asked for some thoughts on improvements. It can be hard to see the problems from the inside so I would value your suggestions.
