Tweet from Kaner. I think he's trolling us:

@88PKane: Congrats to @kingjames on winning the title tonight. Nice to see the most scrutinized athlete ever quiet all his haters

Well, they still do. Doughty's allegedly done something according to one person that the police are finding 'serious credibility issues' with and Kaner was spotted by, what, 10+ people doing stupid stuff? And he kind of has that reputation? They're both bad, although obviously rape would be pretty much not comparable to whatever dumb drunk crap Kane was doing.

All joking aside, I really don't understand how being a drunk 22 year old is "really bad". Millions of people act that way every day.

Jordan Staal reportedly turned down a 10-year extension, I have to wonder if the Blackhawks are considering him at all for be their 2nd line center. NYR and CAR are the teams I've seen mentioned most.

Where are these stories about other 22 year olds that are so public and visible? There were rumors and stuff about Carter and Richards, but aside from a picture here and there, there wasn't a lot of stuff to go on. I've seen pictures of Malkin and Giroux too, but most of it was way more tame than the outlandish stuff that was talked about with Kane. Most 22 year olds don't wind up in either of the peculiar situations Kane has landed himself in.

The Blackhawks even think Kane needs help, which I think is the most telling thing. Then again, I guess the Flyers did the whole disastrous 'dry island' thing that basically led eventually to the Kings winning the Stanley Cup so whatever.

So the fact that he's a public figure makes it "really bad" when millions of non-public figures do the same stuff and never get called out on it? It's a PR problem, not a real life issue.

It's not good when those people do it either. If one of my friends punched a cabbie and went around barhopping, passing out in bars, acted like a sexist douchebag, choked women, etc, I would be pretty disappointed in him. There's no point in mitigating this stuff. It's not a good character trait whether the person is famous or not.

I think it's safe to say that if any employer thinks you need help with a potentially very serious problem, it's worth noting.

And no, millions of people don't do what Kane did every day. The ones that do are scum.

Staal said he won't sign an extension with whatever team gets him in a trade. The feeling is he wants to sign as an UFA with Carolina. The Pens probably just keep him for their cup run and hope he changes his mind.

kinda right, kinda wrong. staal traded to carolina for sutter, dumoulin, and the 8th pick which turned out to be pouliot. quite a haul for the pens, bastards.

A pretty dumb move by Carolina who held all the cards in that negotiation.

More important than all this draft business, Dr. Q told reporters yesterday he thinks Hossa will be ready for the start of camp. Hopefully that was based on something he's been told by a doc.

Chris Kuc retweeted a Luongo/Blackhawks rumor that came from a Columbus writer. Although he spent the next 20 minutes talking about how meaningless rumors can be.

Yeah that was ridiculous. Are NHL teams allowed to pay salaries of guys they trade? And would the union allow a renegotiation of Luongo's deal? And would Luongo even consider that? Three yeses, and I might start to consider it.

I'd happily welcome Luongo in the Indian Head. My only concern, and the reason it likely doesn't happen, is his contract and how that would handcuff Stan into fixing the other glaring holes on the roster. Not to mention Lu's no trade clause he'd have to waive.

He's at 10/47 right now, right? The cap hit on the deal is 5.3m (I assume that carries over regardless of what remains on contract). The last 4 years of his deal are considerably cheaper, and one would have to assume that is when he will be ready to retire.

If they managed to deal away Crawford and Montador or maybe Hjalmersson then from a cap perspective there's already a wash in the next few years. The contract is expensive, but it really only matters from a cap perspective.

I think it would be crazy if such a move occurred, given their history. But I don't think I'd be upset if they managed to make the deal without giving up top prospects.

At what point do you shop Kaner around? He's pretty much a one dimensional player and will always be that because of his size. He avoids the corners, avoids contact, he's not scoring much and he doesn't move without the puck very well. Other than that, the girls like him. If only he had 1/4 the heart of a Kris Versteeg.

The Hawks need more scoring, but also need to shore up the defense. Too many shots on goal given up the last couple years. Seabrook and Keith can't play 40 min. a night.

I was listening to an interview with Kuc on the Score on Saturday from the draft, and they specifically asked him if he had heard anything at all linking the Hawks to the bigger FA, and he said absolutely not thing, and he expects Bowman to make smaller moves to not shake up the team too much.

Which if true is the dumbest thing Ive ever heard.

I am a notorious Kane detractor and I think you may be a little off here. Also a quality 2nd pairing d-man and keeping Kane should not be an either/or proposition.

Yeah in fits of rage I'll fess up to a willingness to trade Kane for a bag of pucks. But in the calm of the offseason, it's clearly not a good idea.

He has slowly developed a more sound two-way game, especially in the second half of last season. And it's certainly not his fault that Crow was facing so many shots.

Plus he's just so young. Would be tough to give up on the guy now.
