the cubs aren't a small market team, why are we ripping off starlin castro, give him 25 million dollars this season

Actually Castro should still be in the minors. He should've played at least full seasons in AA and AAA, before maybe getting a cup of coffee with the ML team this year. You wouldn't want to start that arby/FA clock too soon

He was called up back then the Cubs used to try and win. They aren't trying now so the scenarios have changed.

Plus, Castro is a future hall of famer. Rizzo is just a nice player who will probably have a nice little career. You need to maximize his value to the organization.

There's a slight difference between keeping Castro down an extra year or two and keeping Jackson and Rizzo down an extra three months.

Nevermind the fact that Rizzo and Jackson actually need the time at AAA to work on some significant flaws and the people who seem to think otherwise are basing it on spring training numbers.

This. Rizzo has been extremely young for every league he's played in. Repeating AAA won't hurt him a bit.

I'm fine with Rizzo and Jackson playing at AAA for as long as they need to, if it helps their development. I'm just not convinced that Rizzo has much to prove at AAA.

That's not the relevant question.
