The Pirates and Andrew McCutchen have agreed to a six-year extension worth $51.5MM, and the deal contains a club option for a seventh year at $14.75MM, according to Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The deal is expected to be officially announced on Tuesday (Twitter links).

McCutchen's contract buys out his final pre-arbitration season, all three arbitration years, and a pair of free agent seasons with an option for one more season. All told, the Buccos now have team control of their young superstar through the 2018 season.

Nice deal for the Pirates.

Really nice deal for the Pirates.

Am I forgetting someone or is he the best young CF in the game? Can't think of it right now.

Ellsbury and Kemp are both under 30, so it depends on how you define young.

he's definitely the best 25 or under. i guess bryce harper and mike trout could end up being better, though who knows if harper can stay in CF and trout probably won't play CF either, as long as bourjos is playing gold glove defense for the angels.
