Cards Close To Deal With Oswalt; BoSox, Astros In Mix

By Mark Polishuk [January 27 at 9:30pm CST]

The Cardinals are close to a deal with veteran right-hander Roy Oswalt, reports Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio (Twitter link).  The Red Sox and, surprisingly, the Astros are still contenders for Oswalt's services.  Mike Silverman of the Boston Herald (via Twitter) confirms these three teams are in the mix and says it could be "another day or two" before a decision is made.

How bout that, another injury prone old guy.

I thought Duncan was coming back for the start of the season

I hope the Cards sign him. One less pitcher out there for contenders to go get, makes the Garza market stronger. Not like we'd trade Garza to them, so it eliminates a pitcher from the teams we've been talking to.

Duncan is out indefinitely.

Maybe he's attempting to devote his coaching abilities to making his kids good at baseball.

He has two kids who played baseball in the major leagues. I'd say he did just that.

They're just not particularly good.

Yes the mans two kids, who made it to the big leagues, aren't particularly good at playing baseball.
