Classic fraud, created by an overzealous media and cult of personality. Joe Paterno probably wasn't the devil, but he was very, very far from being the man he was depicted to be up until recently.

I would think that many of us on here would go to the cops instead of our supervisor, but maybe that's just me.

Tim Curley was his supervisor, Joe reported to him. Gary Schultz was in charge of the campus police, Joe reported to him, too. But why worry about facts?

Also, McQueary testified that he never told Joe that he saw a child raped (in fact, he never told anyone that he saw a rape). He told Joe he saw something inappropriate. Im not sure why people can't see the possibility that Paterno (who wasn't a witness) held out hope that what McQueary saw was a mistake, and that by reporting it to the AD and campus police they would handle it appropriately.

But yeah, I can see how it makes sense that a guy who wanted to orchestrate a massive coverup would choose to tell his boss and the head of police all about it.

"In retrospect, Hitler, totally a monster. But at the time I was just holding out hope that was all rumors. Live and learn."

I understand your logic here...if we were talking about underage drinking or drugs.

Joe Paterno -- the Neville Chamberlain of college football

This is the only good post you've ever made

"he held out hope". LOL KIDS WERE RAPED, are you serious with this [expletive]

Yes I am. Did you not read my entire post? Did you not read McQueary or Paterno's testimonies? Paterno was never told a rape occurred. But again, why worry about the facts we know?

Look, if people want to be mad at someone for not doing more, they should be mad at McQueary, you know, the only person who witnessed anything. But that would require rational thinking, and where is the snark in that?

Governor Tom Corbett, also supports child rape

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/01/23/pa-govenor-orders-flags-to-half-staff-for-paterno/

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has ordered the state’s flags lowered to half-staff in honor of legendary Penn State coach Joe Paterno.

The inflammatory hyperbole is unnecessary, and honestly makes you look bad.

Yeah, he doesn't support child rape. He just thinks that the life of a man who aided and abetted child rape should be honored state-wide.

Actually Corbett was attorney general of Penn during the time Sandusky abused these children and never brought charges against him. So yes, in addition to today's stunt of lowering the flags(completely uncessessary), I believe he doesn't support the rights of young children.

in fact, i doubt sandusky did anything wrong at all.

Well, he went on t.v. and declared his innocence in a coherent and utterly convincing fashion.

I think the lesson that Joe Pa and Jerry would have us learn is that if you ignore horrific conduct and/or deny that it occurred then you shouldn't be held responsible. Rather, a shrine should be erected in your honor and meaningless, cliched statements like, "Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things", will be held up by your followers as a pearl of true wisdom.

EDIT: Now that i think of it, Joe Pa's quotes remind me of the one's spewed by Pat Swayze's character in "Donnie Darko". The character was later found to have a "kiddie porn dungeon" in his home.

Good thing that movie was a work of fiction....
