Bud Selig and his stupid world series winner gets home field advantage

Baseball needs to stop that

And get a salary cap

And shorten the season 10 games

But world series affected by all star game

Seems to be a weird year to be braying for a salary cap.

The Cardinals came in around $105 million and the Rangers were around $95 million.

And personally I don't see a need to shorten the season by chopping games. I would, however, like to see doubleheaders brought back so they can finish things earlier.

Considering the fact that it used to just alternate leagues, I don't really care that it's based on the ASG. That said, just give it to the damn team with the best record. It'd be no worse than what it is now and people would complain less.

And no salary cap or shortened season, plz.

I have no idea why a Cubs fan would pull for a salary cap.

I'm pretty sure most everyone agrees that an exhibition game deciding home-field advantage is terrible. Just give it to the team with the best record and be done with it.

It's not as if the Cardinals have always benefited from the home field advantage. In 2004 when they won 105 games it was the wild card winner Boston who got home field advantage.

Remember when Daryl Kile died?

That one's not my fault. I didn't let him in last night.

So if Texas is a contender next year(hard to see how they wouldn't), do you think Ron Washington goes all out to win the ASG? Gets the better players more playing time, disregards getting everyone playing time, and even extends some pitchers to 2 to 3 innings. Picks more dominate middle relievers than usually get picked. I would, heck with the consequences. If someone gets hurt it would just show how stupid Selig's "fixing" the ASG approach has been.

If this World Series taught me anything it's that when Ron Washing goes all out to win, that it's usually a bad thing for his team.

Did I post something inflammatory or incorrect?

Yes I do. What does that have to do with home field advantage?

The Cardinals would have had home field under the old system as well - 2011 would have been an NL year.

Sosa, Farnsworht the headcase, sosa, a second base platoon, Sosa, Bako, sosa, Baker, sosa, injuries, Sosa, sosa, sosa, sosa, sosa

Nope - that's why you weren't banned!

I never understood the "fixing" in the first place; it's not like there's other baseball for people to watch during the ASB.

Either way, it seems like logical move would have been to give HFA to the team with the best record.

Obviously the problem they're trying to overcome is that there's other stuff on that isn't baseball that people were choosing instead.

And most of the people who would tune out are still going to choose something else over the ASB (or most of it) despite the change; anyone should have realized that, set Selig and co. stubbornly and stupidly went ahead. The ASB already had it's built audience. Changing it like they did wasn't going to bring in anyone new (at least not of long term significance).

i'm not sure this is correct. when the cubs were really good (2008), the ASG game thread was 112 pages. that's ridiculous. if it were just an exhibition game, even with a number of cubs playing, the game thread would not have been nearly that long. we cared about it because we (foolishly) thought it could matter to the cubs.

now i still think it's a dumbass way to decide HFA, but i'd argue that it definitely builds interest among fans of the handful of teams that are serious world series contenders.

I always thought "This Time it Counts" was as much for the players as it was for the fans. They wanted the players to take it seriously again in the wake of less League identity/pride, and I think it worked to a degree - for many, C.J. Wilson is directly culpable for the Rangers playing Game 7 in St. Louis instead of the Dallas 'burbs.

Blame assigned in July

Of course, we now have lots of prominent players declining to show up, and I agree that it makes no sense to seed the League tournaments but take the World Series out of the hands of the teams concerned.

Selig routinely says the logistics of setting up hospitality and hotel rooms for the World Series are too complicated to deploy on short notice, but I find that notion to be absolutely ridiculous.
