Wow. RT @ScottWCVB "@LynchieWCVB reports Crane Kenney was holding up talks 'for his own interests' and is in hot water with Commish.

What? Is this a joke?

If true that's pretty amazing that Kenney was trying to sabotage the whole deal from the inside.

It's not true. Do you really think Rickett's would let him sabotage negotiations? Bullocks!

I'd be OK with Grace as a 1B or 3B coach or something.

I'd actually be OK with Sandberg doing one of those jobs, too.

I just don't want a baseball meatball making decisions. Don't put lovable PR characters at manager and pitching coach...those matter (at least a little tiny bit).

Well, Kenney would be losing some power I guess, so I can see this sort of ringing true. That said, I take everything from the media in this process with a grain of salt. Boston media is blaming Kenney (gee, wonder which side leaked that information), while wasn't it Leviine the other day that was blaminig Henry?

I'm pretty dubious of a claim that Crane Kenney either was holding up negotiations without Ricketts's knowledge, or that Ricketts was ok with it.

I'm also dubious that Kenney would be "in hot water" with the commissioner because of the talks being held up an extra day.

Gotta love speculation but this is wild.

One source I have talked to said that Ricketts and Epstein have both wanted to put a family atmosphere in the Cubs organization by bringing back some individuals that have impacted the Cubs in the past. This source said he would not be surprised to see the front office hire Ryne Sandberg as manager and then he in turn name Larry Bowa as his bench coach and possibly add Mark Grace somewhere on the staff. What a buzz that would create.

Larry Bowa as bench coach would be amazing. What is Mark Grace going to do make sure the beer is tapped?

Hire Matt Stairs as hitting coach (though he is still playing as of 2011) and then we really have a party.

Nothing says overhauling an organization like embracing the losers of the past.

No Mark Grace ever

I could go either way.

I liked him a lot as a player. Played great defense, hit for great average, and always was putting up near .400 OBP's. Don't like him at all as an ex-player (or ex-Cub).

But I guess he IS an ex-player now.

If doing so drives the Cub fans out in droves and provides the revenue streams to support a $150 million payroll, I got no problem with it. As long as the front office has strict guidelines in place for the managers.

By opening day, every Cubs and White Sox player from the 80's-90's will be on his former teams payroll in some capacity.

I still think the Chicago reports are more likely true - that Henry was holding things up otherwise the deal would be done. I mean, Kaplan and Levine were close to right about things being done on Friday, so it sure feels like pressure from Selig came down.

Grace was the ultimate underrated by counting stats guy.

Dude put up almost a .900 OPS pretty much every year, and it was OBP heavy.

it's a 162 game season. every player is going to have wtf moments. kaplan sure does focus more on the latin players' mistakes.

I'm pretty sure he'd rip on a white guy if he turned a double into a single by standing and watching it go off the wall.

Sullivan called him out for this exact thing when I was having a Gammons in the thread about CTL

That's good and all, but I'm pretty sure he he's not strapping on the uni anytime soon.

I'm not sure how much credibility I would put in that blog. I remember it was throwing out wild rumors a couple years ago that largely didn't come true. It's possible I'm thinking of another blog, but pretty sure it was this one.

Not to mention the fact that I doubt Epstein has "putting together a family atmosphere" or whatever as one of his priorities at this point.

Didn't Ryno and Grace have a rather chilly relationship, or am I just completely dreaming this up?

I tihnk Grace was pissy when Ryno quit.

And he would have gotten away with it if it werent for those meddling kids and their dog.

This made me LOL. Well done, sir.

Well, Bowa is and has been ready to get back into managing in some capacity. If he ends up as bench coach, I think it would be an amazing move.

Expect a ton of ejections with these two running the show. It'll make the Ozzie years look tame.
