Regarding the series itself, the Smokies are probably in trouble since the pitching matchups just don't favor them. Mobile has Jarrod Parker today, Tyler Skaggs in Game 3 and, if necessary, Trevor Bauer in Game 4.

Jeebus that's a loaded staff. Skaggs is awesome.

It's a short series, but I'll be real interested to see how Vitters does against above average pitchers. Hopefully TN can can steal a game or two.

This along with Ha and McNutt...everyone else is pretty secondary.

smokies are still scoreless in the ninth... they've had chances but left 8 guys on base. vitters has had a big game, going 0-for-4 with 2 K's and 3 LOB.

the baybears (i think that's mobile's mascot) have only 2 hits in the game and both of those guys were out via doubleplay, so they've had the minimum 24 batters up through 8 innings (and obviously 0 LOB).

this is pretty comical. the baybears got the leadoff hitter in the 9th on via a HBP and bunted him over to second, but then he was doubled off on a fly ball to left (guessing he thought it was going to drop in). then in the bottom of the 10th, the baybears got the leadoff hitter on base via a single, and he was promptly picked off first. the next hitter got on base via a jonathon mota error, but the next hitter grounded into a double play. so the baybears have had five batters reach base and still have 0 LOB and brought the minimum 30 batters to the plate.

Anyone notice that Junior Lake ended his season with a golden sombrero? Now that the season is over, we should expect to see Clevenger and Dolis in Chicago. I hope Quade allows Clevenger to catch one game before the season ends.

Isn't it a best of 5 series?

The season isn't over. Next game is tomorrow night. And I doubt the Cubs put Clevenger on the 40 man roster this late into September. Dolis might come up but they might decide it's just not worth the hassle (by the time he could get to Chicago they would have less than 10 games left).

AzPhil suggested that Clevenger would be up as well (and Dolis). I think everyone is going off Bruce Levine's article awhile back that said both those guys would be up after the playoffs.

Personally, don't see a point to call them up now. Dolis, maybe you squeeze in an outing or two, since he's on the 40 anyways, but Clevenger isn't, and reality is, he probably gets 1 game and maybe a few pinch hit appearances in a call-up. Just don't think it's necessary. Tell him congrats, you'll have a shot at the backup job next year, go home and rest.
