The Chicago Cubs will draw 3 million fans for the eighth straight season, according to a team source, yet the team will lower prices on bleacher seats in 2012.

The Cubs have sold just over 2.8 million tickets, which is about 500 fewer per game than in 2010. There are six home games remaining. The slight erosion has been most apparent in the bleachers over the last couple of years.

The team is concerned about a perception of half-empty bleachers on television during games early in the season -- because of weather, and late in the season if the team is out of contention. So ownership plans to lower prices on bleacher seats in 2012.

Demand for Cubs tickets still is extremely high as the season-ticket base is close to 26,000 with a waiting list of 100,000.

The Cubs are considering expanding sales of season tickets in 2012, according to a team source.

Good, it was insane how much they were jacking up the price of bleacher seats. Over $80 for prime games I believe. And this for the type of seats that more teams offer among their cheapest tickets. The atmosphere the bleachers provide makes it understandable that they are priced more than most seats at Wrigley, but when you see those seats for $80, it makes you realize that you are paying that much for a mediocre seat.

The atmosphere is rather frat boyish, but I don't mind that even though I don't fit that mold. What I do mind is having to get to the game at least an hour early to get a good seat, and the fact that there are much closer seats available for a cheaper prices in the grandstand.

I don't mind the frat boyish atmosphere because I feel the workers do a good job of controlling and kicking out the people that really disturb the game.

Typical Ricketts only in this to bleed as much money as possible out of Wrigley.

Profit maximization is so darn un-American.

It kind of is. See Profit maximization means firing of American workers and taking advantage of slave labor in China. So in your sarcastic remark you are kind of correct.
