wtg vitters. although his baserunning seems to leave a bit to be desired.

The CS and PO were the same play and it was his first time picked off/caught stealing in the AFL season:

With Joe Mahoney batting, Josh Vitters picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, pitcher Charles Brewer to first baseman Kody Hinze to shortstop Dixon Machado.

He's now at .358/.384/.568/.952 with 4 BB, 9 K in 81 AB.

Well then, never mind what I was saying (I wish that was the only thing we could pick on with his game). Of course he likely won't try to steal much if/when he gets to the big leagues.

and lake can only dream of having a beard like derosa. i think the comparison was more based on utility than hitter profile.

I'm a bit confused, then. You could take pretty much any SS with a bit of pop and compare them with DeRosa, then. In addition to playing 2B, 3B, LF & Rf, Lake would also be able to play a credible SS and should be able to cover CF based on his speed.

Yeah, but how many actually do that? And how many of those types have we had on the cubs, recently? This is such a weird thing for me to nitpick, but I'm just saying that I took the comment as him looking into the future and seeing Lake's role on the team being a guy that fills in at different positions.

I'm sure you could stick castro in LF and he wouldn't soriano himself, but the cubs don't do that. It might just be that it ends up being Lake's role, though.

What the Cubs do and don't do is a very fluid concept right now.

i am 100 percent certain castro will not play in LF this season.

I get it. You meant the Cubs won't do that this coming season. One paragraph up you were talking about looking into the future with Lake and I thought you meant that Cubs management doesn't consider moving players to different positions as a rule. And with the turnover and expansion in the Cubs front office, what the Cubs do and don't do is a very fluid concept right now. Never mind.

The Red Sox don't do much running.

Lake needs to be locked in a weight room.

This is one of the areas of player development that I'm hoping the new leadership will take care of. Instead of having Camp Colvin, I'm hoping we'll invest in player conditioning throughout the system.

Bases juiced for a cub with reliever scahill coming in. Wow junior lake reminds me of Castro. RBI single to rf

This was Sickels Cubs top 20 list for 2009:

11) Starlin Castro, SS, Grade C+: Intriguing toolsy infielder had strong AZL debut. A sleeper.

12) Junior Lake, SS, Grade C+: Intriguing toolsy infielder had strong AZL debut. A sleeper.

Obviously in some ways they're not all that similar (Castro is much better at making contact, Lake probably has a little more power and speed, Lake in the past at least wasn't as coachable) but they do have a lot of similarities as well.

I was referring to their "look" while at the plate. I saw the Cubs uniform on deck but wasn't sure who it was until the announcers finally stopped their 5 minute discussion of the reliever.

#Cubs in final #AFL game of season (11/17): Junior Lake(DH): 2-for-3, 2B, 2RBI, R; Josh Vtters(RF): 2-for-3; DJ LeMahieu(3B): 0-for-3

We certainly had some strong hitting performances this fall, even though it is a hitters league.
