Gameday isn't the best way to assess much, but it looks like McNutt was victimized off his 4-seamer (1st inning double by Tim Beckham, and 3rd inning home runs by Beckham and Terdoslavich) and a hanging curve to Bethancourt. Looking at Cashner's gameday makes me feel a bit better about that outing - looks like he's in full, pump it in pen mode and Bethancourt and Colon simply managed to catch up to two high 90's fastballs before Mattison caught him on a changeup.

Mildly surprised that Cashner threw more change-ups versus his slider. Wonder if this has been going on most of Fall League and I just hadn't been paying attention, or if this is specific to one game.

Very excited to see how Vitters makes out in the PCL next year. Reckon he'll be at 3rd or OF?

The Cubs have definitively states he'll be at 3B next year.

I'd guess that Vitters will play a little of 3rd, a little of LF, and a little of 1st. There's just too many guys that are currently slated to potentially get some AAA 3rd base time.

That said, it really wouldn't surprise me if they asked Vitters to stay in AA for another year.

AFL Rising Stars game is on tonight at 7 pm Chicago time on the MLB Network. Junior Lake is batting 3rd at shortstop.

The top 2 pics in the 2011 draft, Gerrit Cole and Danny Hultzen, are the starting pitchers tonight.

Recording set. I'm really excited to see those two arms, and hopefully Mcnutt off course.

Lake "struck out" in his first at bat on what looked like ball 4 on a full count. MLB network has a terrible angle though so it was hard to tell, they appear to only have a couple of cameras. Ack he made a terrible play on a ball that he should have held on to but instead made a poor throw due to making it while his bottom half was facing another direction, looked really akward and the result was a throw well up the line away from his first baseman.

Just saw Lakes AB and atrocious throwing error. Pretty much what I expected, but physically he's exactly what I expected. I still like the player alot. They even threw out the Soriano comparison. He's more solid than Soriano, and I think I see him as an IF. 3B or even 2B, though obviously you keep him at SS as long as possible.

Junior Lake sure looks the part. He's long, lean, very athletic and has bat speed to burn though he's still raw. His swing is a little long and he made spotty plays in the field. He probably needs another year/year and a half of seasoning but when he's ready I can see this kid as a corner outfielder and devastaing top of the order hitter.

He's more likely to be a bottom of the order hitter unless he can learn to work the count better.

If he cuts down on his swing he can definitely be a top of the order hitter. Baseball seems to be trending towards the non-traditional type leadoff hitter. He may strikeout 120+ times but with his skill set he can easily go 20/20 or even 20/30.

The Cubs are going to care more about someone who can get on base at the top of the order.
