  1. just to get us back on topic, maybe? not that it's a really great article. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1742661-stock-up-stock-down-for-chicago-cubs-top-10-prospects-for-week-20
  2. Well he's safely in the top 7 so that's pretty much semantics. it can't be semantics when we're talking about numbers. we know what numbers mean. it would be arguing over semantics if someone said sano was an elite prospect and someone else said he's only near-elite and then we had to hash out definitions for those terms. are you sure about that? 1) it's a semantic argument about semantics!! 2) there's denotation and connotation. by a more academic definition (or denotation), "semantic" purely means meaning in language. on the street, though, the connotation has come to be more negative: arguing over meaningless differences. (which, over time, has evolved into a new and alternate definition, too.) 3) structuralists argued heavily over the semantics, or meanings, of signs. it was a very serious thing. some think that's where the negative connotation originally came from. of course, a post structuralist might explain that we're always developing different meanings. in other words, everything is semantics.
  3. thanks, david! i tried to read the psd message board the other day, and it's really terrible. i read here quite often, but i comment far less. this board is far more helpful and interesting. it's really tough to find good discussion too many other places. also, a quick shout out to california raisin. i always appreciate your posts and comments.
  4. i think this could be really true, though i think he's quite open to going to the dodgers, too. i had a dream about this last night - i know, i'm embarrassed, too. it's not usual behavior, i think, for a gm to leak a report to their own website like that. sure, there are leaks and sources everywhere. but it's just a little bit weird how the atlanta gm has talked around the whole situation. we have a bit too much inside information from too high of a source - a named gm! so, i'm thinking that the atlanta gm knew at that point the dempster would (or very strongly might) refuse the trade, and wren decided to use his last tool: public pressure. he figured he might have nothing to lose, but demp might say yes is it ll became public. don't know, but i was (i guess) still thinking about it.
  5. i know this has been mentioned before, but the difference between jay jackson coming out of the pen and starting is crazy. he started on may 6, may 21, may 31, and jun 11. in those games, he gave up 5, 6, 6, and 7 runs. in the games he came out of the bullpen, he gave up 1 run 3 times and 0 runs twice. in three of his relief appearances, he stayed in for longer than two of his starts. what's the deal?
  6. long time listener, first time caller! i've followed the forum for more than 4 or 5 years, and i love your talk on the minor leagues. i may actually have relevant comments at some point, but i really just wanted to say thank you for all of your insights and information. i've enjoyed raisin, outshined, tim, toonster, craig, and so many others. thank you! :D
