Strong outing from Peralta, it's been a while since he's had a good outing at Peoria.

Logan Watkins 2-3 with a 2B, HR, and 2 BB. Why isn't this guy even in the conversation for the top 20 again? He had a rough season last year, and started rough this year, but he's been on cruise control since, and was fairly highly touted before last year, right up their with Hak Ju Lee.

I think he is in the conversation for top 20. The thing that Raisin pointed out was that his ceiling isn't, say, as high as Amaya's. How much of this 2nd half power is real? I'm working through my list and have him roughly in that 20-25 range right now.

As a side note, I think some of us felt that he was overhyped by the Cubs developmental people. IIRC, they were the driving force behind his high placement in a BA ranking a few years back. The power is a big issue. It won't be elite, but he has to have enough power to maintain the intrigue because he strikes out a fair amount for a guy with his limited offensive skillset.

Meant to ask you before, but why did you leave him off your rough top 30 list, going in favor of Yao-lin Wang and Willengton Cruz? I'm having a tough time finalizing my list because I wish some of these young arms were having better performances, but I still think Peralta's ceiling gets him ahead of Cruz/Wang, and probably Zych, who I'm not huge on.

Looking over my list, I think that was a memory lapse. I definitely do like Peralta more than Wang.

I definitely feel that was a major driving force behind Watkins top 10 ranking a couple of seasons ago. I can see him in the 20s (there really is a big group of interchangeable prospects in that range) but I definitely prefer Amaya to Watkins.

I see Sandoval got the start instead of Willengton Cruz. For the life of me, I can't remember what Sandoval throws. Anyone recall? Hopefully the guy posting all those game reports from Boise will show up and have caught the game. For some reason, I was thinking that Sandoval was topping out low 90's, with the general feeling that he won't add much velo and his secondary stuff is too raw (for some reason, I had written a note down about him where I said that he might be one of those guys that doesn't advance too far up the system due to limited stuff), but I'm not certain right now (and not certain why I wrote that note).

Wonder what's up with Willengton.

This is the time of the year where the Grinders hold Fort and the wear and tear weakens others.

Be it Spring training plus short season, 50-70 college games plus A ball, or full season returning players, it is a marathon physically and mentally.

This is where physical conditioning, athleticism, solid fundamentals, preparation, natural ability, maturity and focus is called upon to sustain player success.

A better game than last night, but..

Pitching; Sandoval looked good. His fasball had some snap to it. He struck out 6. But that was all he threw. So he had to go deep into every count. It would have been nice if he had a pitch that could induce an easy groundout. He left after three innings, so I assume they had him on a pitch count. If he develops his secondary stuff he could be good.

Hitting; DeVoss had his issues at the plate. The first night I saw him he looked great. He could hit anything thrown at him. Last night he looked like he was guessing incorrectly and not seeing the ball well. Cuneo did not get a hit, but he hit the ball well. He has that sweet left handed swing. Harrington had a good night at the plate and Zapanes and Caberas chipped in with a few singles, but other than that Boise's bats were anemic. Golden continues to show that he has a tough time catching up to a decent fastball. Hoilman has a real tough time with pitches that break away from him. Both, if they do not strike out, end up hitting a pitcher's pitch for a weak ground out or pop-up.

Defense: I think DeVoss is better at second. He is not bad in center, but his range seemed limited. Hard to say with the sample size that I am dealing with. Galindo was Salem's center fielder. By now it is clear that he is going to get to anything hit near to him. I would compare him with Chris Walker, who was a Cub's prospect a few years ago. I do not have that feeling with DeVoss. He is not bad, but not spectacular. Cuneo was in left. He has the arm and a good glove, but his range is limited. He seems to be a very good firstbaseman. Harrington had issues at third last night. An error on a grounder and difficulties with a couple of pop-ups. Caberas showed a poor arm for a catcher.

glad you were inspired, but the post was meant to convey patience over quick judgement of players

I didn't really get that message from it at all.

I got Knute Rockney chills.
