Rhee with 11 Ks in 6.2 IP. Del Valle had a great night as well.

That's a career high for Rhee.

I wish we could get a scouting report on Del Valle.

McNutt quite solid through 6. 5 H, 3/3 K/BB, 1ER.

Some scuffles in the 7th (2 outs, then walk, single, single (1 R), before a K to end) makes the line look a bit weaker, but I'm pleased that the Cubs are pushing his pitch counts in an effort to work him (97 pitches).

What excites me about Rhee is this - first 8 starts of the year, only once did he complete 5. Last 15 starts, only twice did he fail to complete 5, and 8 out of his last 12 starts, he's gone at least 6. One of the bigger concerns with Rhee, for me, has always been whether or not he could physically hold up as a starter, and this was concern existed pre-TJ. Add in Cooper's recent comment on him, and he's definitely getting back some of that love he had from two years ago.

Saw a tweet tonight that Del Valle hit 98 on the gun. Didn't say anything about his secondary stuff, though. AZPhil said he had a good slider, though. I'm guessing the standard "changeup is a work in progress". Regardless, that kind of velocity is tremendous out of a lefty.

whoa, that's from a legitimate source as well in Bob Nightengale. That said, I'm guessing he's going by a stadium gun.

The highest I had heard on Del Valle was topping out in the mid-90's, but I was under the impression he was sitting more low 90's. If he can consistently get it up into the upper 90's ... that'd be a fascinating talent, regardless of how raw his secondary stuff is.

googled this up

Had his fastball peaking at 92 in July. I've got to think 98 is an aberration, or the gun was faulty. I just hadn't heard anything anywhere near that this year from anyone. Don't know the consistent quality of his slider, though. Had heard it was fairly mediocre in a game.

Brett Jackson 0-3 with 3K's (and a BB). I have a really, really hard time putting him at #1 on the list. I still think Vitters will be a better MLB hitter.

I can maybe believe that in the most absolutely literal sense(Vitters having a higher AVG).

I don't. He's a solid bet (bet's still a bet, so obviously no certainty) to be roughly a 3 WAR CF sooner than later. He's a possible 20/20 guy in his prime, and his defense has improved this year. An elite player? Probably not. An above average starting caliber up the middle player that might have a top season here and there, though, is a very valuable asset. Are there guys with higher ceilings? Sure, but no one in the system really has his combination of value, ceiling, and floor, IMO. Maybe Vitters develops into being a better hitter (I have my doubts), but he's going to have to significantly outhit Brett to be more valuable at the next level, particularly since his defense at 3rd is iffy (and I've defended his defense there, somewhat, but it is iffy).

With Szczur's inconsistencies, I think Brett is far and away the easy choice for the top spot in the system. Szczur was the only guy that really had a chance, I think, to push Brett (for me). Baez is just too raw and too far away for me to ponder it, and McNutt's been too inconsistent.

That's the problem with the system. Lots of good players. No real impact talent.

Let's hope that has changed this time next year.

I was under the impression that Del Valle was 90/91 on the fastball, with a decent slider, decent change. Am I mixing him up with someone?

You might be right, I hadn't heard anything on Del Valle.

ETA: Just saw the 98 mph tweet. Wowza.

Yeah, and if Brett Jackson was a future first baseman, that might mean something.

He is 88-92. Our scoreboard lights were out on the bottom left hand corner Friday night making the 8 in 88 look like a 9 and it got tweeted out. An honest mistake by someone who had never been to our stadium before and didn't know that the lights on the radar gun are broken. Fastest I have heard he has legitimately hit this season is 93-4. That said he was very impressive in his short time with the Chiefs.

That's...embarrassing.

Thanks Nate. Figured he wasn't 98, as that seemed so ... out of the realm of what he was talked about. If you see this at some point, could you give us your feel on his secondary stuff? Only limited glances, so I couldn't be certain on how things looked.

Do you think the comp that someone made about him (AzPhil?) once to Jeff Antigua is fair?

Send a few hundred thousand dollars and we can get a brand new videoboard system and have it fixed! LOL. trust me I know how embarrassing it is. Radar gun was brand new this year...scoreboard not so much
