boise had a good day if you ignore their pitching. chen had a monster game - 3-3 with a triple, home run, sac fly and walk, 5 RBI, 3 runs and 2 SB (along with a CS). golden was 2-4 with a home run and a pair of K's. devoss was 1-3 with 2 walks.

Heh, wrong day. But the offense was nice, YL Wang with his worst outing of the season.

I'm fairly pleased with Reggie Golden's season. He seems to be somewhat ... under-discussed? Considering

a) How raw he was out of HS

b) The weight issues in spring

I'm fairly pleased with his overall offensive and defensive performance on the season and am quite hopeful. He's showing the ability to drive the ball and take walks. The K's had to be anticipated somewhat, considering the background. Is there a bit of SNTS in hoping that the K's will come down a bit (somewhat akin to some hope that BJax would bring his K rate down a bit)? Perhaps, but considering age and level, I think it's a fair hope right now.

SNTS?

I don't want to be too hard on the kid, but showing up to ST out of shape is pretty bad. When you become a pro, baseball becomes what you do. By showing up out of shape he's basically saying he doesn't care. He can certainly change, maybe he has already I don't know. I hope he pans out but I need to see more.

He had a .900 OPS in June and has a .900 OPS in August so far. If he wasn't injured in July, his overall numbers would be a lot better. I'd like to see a little more consistent power, but overall I think he's comfortably placed himself in the top 10.

He looked really good at KC last time. Sitting behind some scouts Got gun times anywhere from 89-92. They said his change is his best pitch.

Welcome to NSBB!

I had heard less promising reports of 85-88 so I hope you're right. As an aside, I hate how the Cubs are making a pattern of double promoting college arms this season (Beeler and Loosen before Jokisch).

Ok, looks like I'll actually be making it to the Peoria game tonight, after a couple of false starts the last couple games.

Is there anybody at all worth paying attention to on the Clinton Lumberkings roster? The only guy who showed up in their top 30 in BA's prospect handbook before the season is 1B/3B Mickey Wiswall... who was #29... and is having an awful season.

SNTS (Shiny New Toy Snydrome)

And yeah, showing up out of shape was a bad sign, but he looks alright right now and seems to be playing well. Maybe he's learned his lesson. Again, a possible SNTS hope perhaps (that he's learned his lesson ... or it could be a sign of things to come).

Whoa ... 89-92? Sitting there? That's higher than I had heard from this year. It'd be a nice positive, if he had picked up velo as the season progressed. Change is good, though.

some guy rosario had a nice start for boise. cuneo hit a hr; devoss had a double and 3 walks but no steals (was picked off once). wilson contreras seems like he has a lot of errors.

dsl cubs 2 scored 18 runs. candelario was 3-6 and a single short of the cycle. jeff baez was 2-4 with 2 walks. penalver 2-5 with a triple. xavier batista had a double and 2 hr. victor garcia pitched well and has solid numbers on the year.

iowa leads 2-1. no brett jackson. lemahieu has homered and walked. struck: 6 ip, 5 h, 1 er, 3 bb, 3 k.

Jose Rosario has a nice live arm. I know he was occasionally hitting mid-90's, but I don't believe that was as a starter. Bit hazy on his secondary stuff, off the top.

He hit 98 in one of his 3-inning piggyback outings earlier this year.

Was at the Peoria game tonight... a few observations:

- I think Easterling is buying into tspain's assessment of his power potential. He was swinging out of his shoes trying to mash the ball. He was displaying a bit of patience at the plate though.

- Easterling was paying zero attention on defense. There were a couple of errant pickoff throws to 2B that made their way into CF, and he wasn't backing up either of them. It was bad.

- Alcantara was playing 3B tonight. He flashed a some nice tools, but didn't even try to get in front of a couple shots down the line, opting instead to stab (and miss) at them. He also didn't hustle in on a bunt popup early in the game he should have caught.

- Alcantara was swinging at pitches up near his neck... but I also did see him hit a deep fly to the opposite field warning track despite not swinging all that hard. I was shocked it went that far, but there wasn't any wind to account for it.

- Rubi Silva was playing 2B. He looks like he has the tools for it. But he had bad footwork that led to a bad throw and had a bit of trouble pulling the ball out of his glove on a DP. So he needs some work.

- Kirk was topping out at 87-88, but flashed a decent little curve and change.

- Kirk has an awesome pickoff move with some good deception.

- Geiger definitely looks like a man that should grow into some power.

- Yohan Gonzalez wasn't fooling anybody.

I can't think of anything else worth sharing offhand.
