If the home plate ump is visibly of deteriorating physical condition due to the heat, shouldn't it be required that he leave the game? How is anyone involved supposed to have full confidence in his ability to call balls and strikes, a confidence that is limited even without the weather?

If the home plate ump is visibly of deteriorating physical condition due to the heat, shouldn't it be required that he leave the game? How is anyone involved supposed to have full confidence in his ability to call balls and strikes, a confidence that is limited even without the weather?

 

The third base umpire, Kerwin Danley, has left the field, presumably to don his home plate gear, in order to relieve Nauert.

 

edit: It was crew chief Dana Demuth, not Danley that replaced Nauert.

When did this happen in relation to the six consecutive Ks? And is he going to give it a rest in the bottom of the 9th?

DeMuth took over at the start of the bottom of the 8th.

streak was nice. one good moment in a pathetic season. Now back to watching the fecal league standings.
