Given the recent (and habitual) questions about what we can set on a daily / weekly basis, I figured the thing to do would be to set up a poll. As I started creating the poll, though, I realized it needed to be a series of polls for each part of the discussion.

Conceptually I prefer the lineups set by Monday with exceptions option, but I think it's largely the exceptions that cause the complication, so I voted for the pick up players anytime without restrictions option.

so are we changing this rule this year so we don't have to go over 2343209325352 different scenarios where you may be able to pick up a free agent SP?

Do I understand this rule correctly. We are allowed to pick up a FA starting pitcher, but we cannot pick up a FA relief pitcher or batter unless a player goes on the DL.

A player who has that little medical sign by his name (usually day-to-day) can be benched, but he has to be replaced by someone who started the week on your bench.

correct????

I would be in favor of allowing any kind of injury substitution considering the lack of bench spots available, and provided that all roster requirements are met. The idea being that you get someone in your line up scoring points at every position that is available. Whether that be through trade or adding free agents, so be it.

So daily changes instead of weekly for all positions? If you have no cap on transactions for hitters, that's going to benefit teams with crappy players that can just stream hitters to get more points.

Good for me this year but long term I don't think it's good in a points league.

If you are answering my post, no that's not what I'm suggesting. Replacements for hurt players only, whether through the bench, trade or free agent pick up.

Not daily changes.

We already have if a player is officially on the mlb DL list than you can pick up a FA to replace him.

BTW - For the newbie - A player has to be on the MLB DL, to be placed on a Roadkill DL.

What we are arguing is that a player with a hurt indicator could also be replaced by a FA. Of course you would want to put the hurt player on your bench. You can't put him on the DL. Right now, you would have to replace the position player/relief pitcher with someone from your bench. At least until the end of the week.

My first thought is that allowing a player to pick up a FA would lessen the importance of your bench. It also could make it difficult for the commish to determine whether or not daily substitutions are being done.

The problem is that there is typically only 1 hitting bench player for most teams. We also allow mid week trades. So if I had someone hurt, I could potentially trade for someone on another team that would fill the hole of the guy who just got hurt. In essence, you can replace the guy if you have someone on your bench that plays that position, you can trade for a guy who plays that position, but you can't pick up a free agent and plug him in your line up?

I'm fine with it if that's the way everyone wants it. But, it just seems odd to me that in some instances, a team can replace their hurt guy (even if it's not a DL candidate) while others can't.

I could swear that's the way we have already been treating this rule. Maybe it just needs to be explained in the rules.
