Yeah, don't boo Wood, you [expletive] morons. He's white, so it's not his fault. [expletive] meatballs.

wut?

When Quade finally pulled Wood he barely got a smattering of boos, despite reloading the bases and giving up 2 more runs himself. There's a pretty clear distinction between who gets really booed at Wrigley and who doesn't. [expletive] white players rarely get anything close to what the non-white ones get when they [expletive] up.

Marmol stunk, got booed. There were cheers as soon as the bullpen got up. Marmol departed to heavy booing after turning a near-certain win into a probable loss. Wood got cheered. When his control problems became evident, he got booed too. When Russell was on his way in, there were light cheers before Wood exited under light boos, after the probable loss became a near-certain loss. Marmol got the heavy reaction, because he was the one who was leaving when fans were getting it out of their system that they just had a win snatched out from in front of them. By the time Wood was done stinking it up, the seats were considerably more empty, accounting for the mere "smattering" of boos. The season-long apathy didn't take long to set in. Fans have been doing this all season.

But you're right, it's racism. That stadium was jam packed full of meatball racists. I'm surprised no one was cheering when Marmol gave up those runs, because at least he has the courtesy to stink before the trade deadline and give all those meatballs the hope that one more brown guy can get out of town. Maybe we can package him together with Castro and pry Theriot away from the Cards. Maybe that will please those stupid racist meatheads whose expressions of disdain for the team doesn't remain constant regardless of the situation or context.

Please.

I'm glad you can see it, too. I appreciate the pleading for reason and sanity in the face of such ugliness, and stand behind you in this.

PS: The "empty seats" argument is load of horse [expletive]. Most of the people who were there when Marmol left the game were still there when Wood left. Feel free to find clips showing otherwise. There would have to be about 1000 people left to account for the difference between the two.

Defense IS an issue that deserves attention. Certainly not to the detriment of all else, but it needs to be addressed.

Honestly better coaching would probably help in that regard. This season has really made me appreciate the work of Rothchild Trammel more.

Better coaching is about all they should attempt. My concern is that it's going to be a focus as to what kind of FA they will sign, much like their faulty quests to get "more left-handed" and "more speed" and, ironically, "guys who can catch the ball."

If Hendry is still around you can bet we will have something stupid that we chase all offseason. I wonder if Jim gets we lost that game because of the three walks?

That, and yet again struggling mightily with runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs.

In no way am I saying defense doesn't matter, but I really can see this season being blamed on poor defense and injuries instead of recognizing/admitting it was simply a bad team. I definitely want Hendry nowhere near the team after the season is through so we can hopefully avoid such a mess.
