I just checked the standings for the first time in a while and was quite surprised learn that we were only 5.5 games back. It's not like the Reds and Cards have been bad either.

It's nice when your team really hasn't had any kind of a hot streak and you are still in the race. Then again, I don't really see how this team is going to pull off a hot streak.

After were through with The Red Sox, or rather theyre through with us, we have a nice little stretch vs. the Mets, Pirates(who were do to beat), and Astros before a very rough June featruing the Cards, Reds, Brewers, Yankees, White Sox, Giants, Royals, and Rockies, all of whom are .500 or above, aside from the White Sox and Brewers, both of who are better than what theyve shown so far. This is actually the ideal time for such a stretch, as it should determine what the plans are for the deadline.

Buckner was beyond awful. I spent a couple innings on the Boston broadcast.

Also, WTF was with Pedroia and Youklis getting all worked up and angry in the 8th inning after being the last two outs? Pedroia went down swinging with the score 14-5, and he was yelling obscenities all the way back to the dugout. Youklis was a little more toned down about ending the inning on a 410-foot flyball to center. "Pedroia wears his heart on his sleeve." Too bad his heart is a douchebag.

What happened to Byrd?

Took a pitch off the face. Report is a deep cut under his eye, but awake and alert and never lost conciousness. He's at a local hospital for further care at present, no word since.
