Junior Lake HR!

I'm still high on Lake's potential. Would obviously like to see him invert that bb/k ratio, though.

Of course, I'm still pleased with Vitters' start to the year, too, though I want to see more power and patience there.

We all can expect more patience from Vitters and Lake, but I don't think anyone can ask more patience of you, Tim. You don't give up easily...

Try to find anyone else in the minors with 50% more xbh than strikeouts. Dare ya.

Cam Greathouse with 4 no-hit innings but he's walked 5 guys in that span.

Cam sort of makes me think of Rich Hill - if Cam ever gets decent control, he could be something intriguing, something more than an end of the rotation/pen arm type lefty. Granted, this is against Low A kids, so there is that secondary issue to factor in as well, but there's been a lot of positives to his start ... and then there's the walks.

Carpenter's a mess. Not much else that can be said.

I hope Matt Spencer gets a look in Iowa. There's not much else for him to prove in the Southern League.

No man, I'm with you on Vitters. Keep the faith, brotha. Lake, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about...

Yeah, I dont know what the hell happened to Carpenter.

As for Spencer, both him, Flaherty, Jackson and maybe LeMahieu and Ridling are likely ready for the next level, however, Iowa seems like more of a purgatory than anything, and if the time were to come, they could probably be called up straight from Tenn. However, unless there were a fore sale, and we started trading guys, may as well let them do what theyre doing and give em a look at ST. However, if an opening were to appear in Iowa, Id be all about sending them.

Is it wrong to be as optimistic about these guys as I am? Theyre not a bunch of 28 year olds facing 35 year old junkballers, but then again, theyre not MIke Trout or Bryce Harper, and arent they in a more pitcher friendly league than Iowa?

To see some of our up coming players we need to bite the bullet and dump several older players, Soriano is getting older, slower and his defense is getting terrible, I know he is leading our team in HR's but that is his only positive.

Johnson, Hill, Davis, all need to move on, and time for me to move on

I agree with Hill. Davis is a fill in. IM on the fence with Johnson.

As for Soriano, hes going to hit .250-.260, OPS in the .800s and hit 20-25 home runs. Whether hes doing it for the Cubs, Orioles, Blue Jays, Newark Bears, or whoever, the Cubs are going to be paying him to do it. This being said, I cant see us pulling someone off the street to duplicate those numbers, so if we have to pay him anyway, may as well be to play for us. A salary dump for his production would be meaningless and foolish and not going to happen.

are we worried about money or winning, Soriano can't hit a swervy (is that even a word) pitch, he can't maintain a rally, can't play defense. I would rather watch a younger player try his hardest than watch soriano look as though he's not trying at all, he may be trying but it doesn't show

If we would luck out like the Blue Jays did with Wells, that would be super, but its not realistic to think that the team is going to eat that much money to let a productive player play elsewheren especially considering that we don't have anyone in the minors who could equal his production.

Are we worried about the appearance of hustling or are we worried about winning?

Making rash baseball decisions because it feels good is how the Cubs got in this century long drought.

not a rash decision, and how do we know how one of our youngsters will perform up here, they will play better defense, run better, won't hit the home runs but won't use a 40oz bat that you can't control anymore, I will admit it, I am tired of alfonso,
