Minor League Discussion & Boxes 4-22-11

I know this kinda jumps between forums, but i gotta ask.

I've got an opportunity to watch a couple games on 4/30 and 5/1 in Nashville. Would I be better off watching Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee (college) or Nashville vs. Albuquerque (AAA, from the looks of it.) ? Also, who should I be watching for? I'm catching a Stone Temple Pilots concert 5/1 and might not be able to watch all of that game.

Whoever convinces me to do what they'd like me to go to wins a half-assed scouting report from a guy who is pretty likely to be drunk enough to spend 10 minutes fixing up his post to look like this.

Go watch the Vandy game. As davell noted, a lot more talent in that game, particularly on Vandy's side (although Tennessee has a couple pieces to watch). Furthermore, there's a decent chance that Sonny Gray could be high on the Cubs radar this upcoming draft.

He's sadly missing the 4/29 game where Gray is pitching.

Spent a while talking plate discipline with Josh Vitters. Guy has great hand-eye coordination, but it's a gift and a curse

First inning done, #Cubs AA RHP Alberto Cabrera showed 90-94 mph fastball, a couple swings and misses at 83-84 mph slider

Alberto Cabrera's 2nd inning: 5 pitches, 2 weak ground balls, 1 broken bat and 3 quick outs #Cubs

Alberto Cabrera's 3rd inning: 9 pitches, 3 harmless ground outs, hit 95 and took one off the ankle. He's fine though #Cubs

Luis Liria is good:

RHP Luis Liria got the start for the Cubs and threw three perfect innings (35 pitches), striking out four. RHP Jean Sandoval threw two more shutout innings, allowing a triple and a walk, before the roof caved-in on RHP Jose Rosario in the top of the 7th, when the D’backs rallied to score four runs and take the lead.

In the comments (Reed threw on Saturday):

CRAIG: Austin Reed is on the EXST Cubs Active List. He was supposed to have pitched last Thursday, but I wasn't at that game so you wouldn't have seen an abridged box score for it.

I think he's supposed to pitch tomorrow or Saturday.

The problem right now is that there are just too many pitchers at Extended Spring Training, and the younger ones keep getting bumped from their outings by the rehab guys, who always get first priority. So then some pitchers end up throwing sim games if they get pushed back too far.
