Randy Wells will make a rehab start at Peoria on Tuesday.

This is also Coleman's next start, so this will line up for perhaps Wells replacing Coleman instead of Davis? Depending on how the junkballer extraordinaire fares tonight?

It's very possible it'll be Coleman down instead of Davis. I believe if we send Davis down, he'll have to pass through waivers and might be able to flat out refuse the assignment. We can send Coleman up and down at will, however, and production probably won't be all that different between the two.

Coleman really hasn't pitched remotely well enough to justify keeping a rotation spot when Wells comes back.

Will Davis? With two unproductive rotation spots, if neither guy filling those spots is pitching well, then the decision really shouldn't be based on whether one guy has earned a spot or not (because neither has). I think Coleman should be the guy to go down either way (unless Davis is flat out horrid), but if Davis pitches well it makes the decision that much more clear.

Roto Press. God damnit

Andrew Cashner was scratched from an extended spring training start Monday after feeling tightness in his shoulder.

Well, that's no good. Cashner will now undergo another MRI in order to determine the severity of the injury. The promising young right-hander has been sidelined since the first week of April with a right rotator cuff strain.

Well [expletive]. Doug Davis it is I guess.

Cashner did not pitch in Arizona today because of tightness in his shoulder. He'll get an MRI. Terrific.

Well, that sucks. That almost guarantees that, even if he does come back healthy, it will not be as a starter.

Actually from what I've read today, I think it was on the official site Quade has been quoted as saying they are still committed to Cashner as a starter and when he's healthy he will take his place in the rotation again. What's the point of another MRI really? what will it show that the one they took 3 weeks ago didn't?

He warmed up in the bullpen before being scratched plus threw on the side last week. It's possible further damage has occurred during those sessions.

Or, conversely (and optimistically), it shows that there's no [new?] structural damage to the shoulder and this is just inflammation or fatigue or some other less serious malady.

Yeah but he's a Cub. That's not likely.

Cue the sad trombone...

Cashner update: MRI says aggravated same injury. Back to square one in rehab. Likely out til after AllStar break.
MRI reveals #Cubs Cashner re-aggravated shoulder. He's going back to beginning of rehab and will not throw for a few weeks. It's not good

Who's to say he wont just have the same issue over and over. I dont really understand why keep running him out there if its just going to keep doing the same thing. Seems like their would have to be a reason structurally for the tightness.

Did he see Andrews?

do you really think that every player who experiences tightness requires surgery????

Well, this is the first time the issue has cropped up again, so who's to say this is a one time re-aggravation?

Not good, but I suppose this isn't terrible news either since it sounds like the injury he re-aggravated is still not considered extremely serious.
