Former major league player and manager Chuck Tanner has died at 82. He played for the Cubs among other teams. He managed the White Sox during the early 70s and was manager of the Pirates' 1979 World Championship team (We Are Family). Much like happened later with Lou Piniella, Tanner was once traded for a player (the Pirates traded catcher Manny Sanguillen and cash to the A's for the rights to hire him as manager).

The city of steel is in mourning.

Not only was he the last manager to take the Pirates to the world series, he was a local guy, too.

Living in Ohio, right across the border, in 79, it was a heavily Pit. Pirate fan area and they must have played "we are family four or five times and hour.

A great manager that had a heck of a lot of great talent. Stargell in those hideous yellow outfit.
