I perused his organizational rankings the other day (http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/news/story?page=2011MLBOrgRanks)

and was a little surprised to see the Cubs as low as #20, although I suppose much of our top tier talent has been recently traded/promoted to the majors.

Other NL central teams:

CIN-8

STL-14

PIT-21

HOU-27

MIL-30

He seems to like the Cards more than others I've read. In particular, he has Shelby Miller as his #9 overall prospect (and #2 overall pitching prospect, above Kyle Drabek, Jeremy Hellickson and Aroldis Chapman). I realize Miller is very talented, but that seems rather high praise for a 20 year old who has never pitched above A ball.

There's no way Shelby Miller should be rated ahead of Jeremy Hellickson.

Law had said the Cubs had a top 10 farm system before the Garza trade. I think 20 is a fair ranking following the trade.

And Brooks Raley at 8 seems a bit crazy.

What does everyone think of Robinson Lopez? I know we got him in the Lee trade but I haven't seen much on him anywhere else and was a little surprised to see him show up in this top 10.

If we were just looking at ceiling, then sure, Lopez is probably deserving of a top 10 slot in the system at the back end. His fastball is reportedly elite, and there's enough promise on his curve. That said, he's awfully raw right now.

Mike Newman over at Scouting the Sally had a good report on him, a report that indicated some positives as well as some negatives. Just google Scouting the Sally and Robinson Lopez. It'll pop up.

I can buy Raley as a Top 15 prospect. Also, as has been mentioned before, there are a bunch of C/C+ guys in the system who are fairly interchangeable. Considering I'd have had no problem with Raley at 10 prior to the trade, having Raley at 8 post-trade seems fine by me.

It pretty much depends on how much you buy into his upside and whether you believe Raley's second half of the season is more indicative of his future than his first half.

Thanks - looks fairly promising.

I am impressed Hendry was able to get a prospect that good for a Lee rental. If you believe this ranking he got better return for Lee than he did for Gorzelanny or Lilly. Or is it possible these rankings were done before the Gorzelanny trade?

I am pretty sure they were. The consensus though seems to be that Burgess' is no longer a big time prospect and I don't think Law would have in, in out top 10.
