Mark Kotsay 1-year deal?

Radio reports are coming out of Chicago that Mark Kotsay is close to agreeing to a 1-year, $2 million dollar deal with the Cubs. Kotsay hit .239 last year on the South side. He would probably round out the bench and backup Pena at first and could also play some corner outfield.

This makes no sense... the Cubs already have 2 left handed corner outfielders, even if Fukudome is traded Snyder could produce at the shitty level Kotsay does.

I figured the Cubs might have been waiting for a bench signing until they cleared 40 man space. Kotsay would be a terrible option for the bench though.

Now this would actually get me pissed. 2 mill for him? That money SHOULD go towards restocking your system some. If this is true, it's a typical Hendry MO.......Waste money on a guy you can get the production out of for alot cheaper and probably from your system to boot.

I totally forgot about Snyder. Besides Kotsay, what are they other options to round out the bench? Right now the bench is Colvin/Fukudome, Baker, Barney, Hill/Castillo.

Why?!? This is so [expletive] stupid if true on so many levels. We don't need a LH bat or to commit $2m+ to a league average, at best, player. Would rather have any of Scott Hairston, Lastings Milledge, or Reed Johnson

I'm perfectly fine with giving him the "Chad Tracy" treatment. But anything more than that is dumb as hell.

I am not trying to be negative or discredit you, but what station did you hear this on? Flipping back and forth between 670 and espn1000 I have heard nothing on this, not to mention seeing nothing online.

Report was just shot down by ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine. Everyone can breathe a little easier. Levine said on the 5:30 update that the Cubs haven't even reached out to anyone for the bench yet, but will within a week or so,
