Dang, considering his upside that isn't a bad deal at all for the Rox. Compare that to Crawford's 7 year/142m. I'd much rather have CarGo than Crawford.

This is a deal IMO the Rockies didn't need to make. Gonzalez still had 4 years to go until free agency. To sign him to a big discount is one thing but this isn't a big discount contract unless he continues to be an MVP level player. They're probably saving 20 million at most with this deal and they could be giving back a lot more than that. Plus it puts him on the market again at 32 which is always a tricky time for a big player to hit the market because he will likely still be productive and yet be overpaid in his next deal.

This is all very true. Didn't think about that. Wasn't aware of how much longer he had until FA.

Well one post makes a good argument that the player left money on the table, and the next makes a good argument that the team overextended itself.

Sounds like it's probably a pretty fair deal for all.

Sure injuries can occur but CarGo looks like a really great player going forward. And who is to say that he wont get better given how young he is. If he were to put a couple of seasons back to back like this the Rockies are looking at some hefty raises in arbitration. I would love to see the cubs develop a player like this
