Eight pages since the games started and hardly any mention of how horrible Hammond and Mayock were? You guys are slacking...

My personal favorite was when the Saints ran in a touchdown and Hammond said, "No signal yet." NBC then flashed the TD graphic and showed the scoring drive. As the special teams units were coming out on the field, Hammond finally said, "And apparently they ruled it a touchdown." Not sure how Notre Dame fans put up with that [expletive] on a weekly basis during the college season.

Edit: Here's a condensed version of the call. You can hear the good part of it though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxU8eM_UcPw

I rarely pay attention to who the the announcers for any given game. I started watching the game just after half and could have sworn that I was listening to Phil Simms instead of Mayock. I was surprised when they went to a booth shot and I didn't see Simms (though I guess I should have known since it was on NBC).

To my ears they sound nearly identical and even say some of the same dumb crap. Though I guess many of the color men say the same stuff. Not many are truly insightful.

It was the umpire down the line who made the TD call right away, and everyone saw it except Hammond. Which pretty much proves he's watching the active TV feed and nothing else. That umpire wasn't on the active TV shot that was being shown.

Even the guys in the truck saw the TD call and turned on the TD graphic.

It was a lazy moment for Hammond, and while I don't watch much ND football, I can only assume it's not a one-off incident with him.

why does mike lupica get to be a shameless homer while the columnists in chicago have to be such pricks towards the bears and all of the rest?

i remember that i developed a healthy hatred for the guy during the jordan years when he was so vocally anti-bulls and pro-knicks. but he just said that he thinks that mark sanchez will become one of the great quarterbacks. excuse me? what a joke, he knows nothing about sports outside of new york, and he's blindly irrational about sports within new york.

Mayock was probably the best analyst I've ever heard in my life. His insight alone made up for any clumsiness on Hammond's part.

Much is made about how tough a town NY is in terms of media.

After watching the situation for many years, I feel quite comfortable saying Chicago is actually a tougher environment.

Chicagoans have a culture of blaming their own teams for failures and assuming the worst of their players & coaches until proven otherwise. They look within for problems. I've noticed this is quite different from many other towns, where fault tends to be found with others, and the hometown team is given the benefit of the doubt.

How in the world is Anquan Boldin running open across the middle? Good defense, KC.

The Chiefs defense would be fine if they could tackle Rice in the flat with even the 2nd defender, instead of the 3rd and 4th.

Holy crap, did you guys see that stat? Baltimore hadn't given up a 30+ yard rushing TD since 2005.

I heard the name Shawn Bryson, but for some reason just assumed that was this year. That is unbelievable.

Ugh Charles. That's why he doesn't get more burn, because the Chiefs try to avoid turnovers almost more than they try to score points.

You mean that 75.3 QB rating (27th in the league and worse than guys like Chad Henne, Alex Smith and Shaun Hill), or the 54.8 completion percentage (29th and better than only Derek Anderson and Jimmy Clausen) don't scream GOAT to you?

Only one of the refs called it a TD and the others stood around looking stupid for a minute. It was weird.

That would make about as much sense as declaring a 2nd year early-entry QB a bust when he's 3-1 in the playoffs (all road games) and improved quite a bit from year 1 to 2. Doesn't really stop anyone either.
