Tim Wilken said Hayden Simpson will miss the minor league regular season due to mono. He'll probably be ready in the fall.

Also, John Mincone hurt his knee and needs surgery. His season is over.

uh oh, mcnutt is out after 1.2 and only 1 run allowed. here's the action that led up to him being removed:

* Greg Sexton walks.

* Stephen Vogt pops out to catcher Mark Reed in foul territory.

* Jake Jefferies flies out to left fielder Smaily Borges.

* With Anthony Scelfo batting, Greg Sexton advances to 2nd on a balk.

* Anthony Scelfo doubles (12) on a fly ball to right fielder Kyler Burke. Greg Sexton scores.

* Pitcher Change: Casey Lambert replaces Kenneth McNutt.

also, marcos mateo started for tennessee, not dolis.

Trey McNutt adds injury to the insult that is Jim Hendry. :(

So how close is David Cales to pushing his way past Parker and Gaub on the pecking order for relievers?

He's pushed ahead of them for me - especially since Gaub ended up on the restricted list for whatever reason.

gaub's command has always been spotty but he's been even wilder this year. maybe there's an issue in his personal life or something that's affected his pitching?

i was hoping that at least one of stevens, gaub and parker would have established himself this year as a solid big league reliever... pretty disappointing.

Do we know exactly what happened to Trey?

No official word yet. The Cubs might have him on a low pitch count to help combat any ill effects of dead arm, but I think that's really unlikely. Just keep your fingers crossed that it was something minor like cramps.

yeah if they were going to shorten the leash they would've pulled him after 4 innings or something, and not give him 1.2 innings a day after they played a 19 inning ballgame.

good news on mcnutt - left game with a blister

It's kind of weird that the most impressive 2010 draftee so far is a 10th round relief pitcher. Granted, Aaron Kurcz has the potential to be a really good relief pitcher...but still.

And the two best players thus far both have z's in their name - Kurcz and Szczur.

Minor League Splits really hates Szczur when you neutralize luck and park.
