On MLBTR they listed a bunch of possibilities on trading Zambrano for other bad contracts. Personally, I don't think the Cubs have to trade him now (at the deadline) or would necessarily have to take back 2 or 3 bad contracts because I would think there will be teams interested in Zambrano at a reduced price. Having said that, the one deal that had slight possibilities is:

•The Indians could match the Cubs' Zambrano commitment almost perfectly with Travis Hafner, Kerry Wood, and Jake Westbrook. It seems pointless, though, and Hafner isn't able to play first base.

How about:

Zambrano + Baker + Atkins + $7 million for Westbrook + Wood + Peralta

Contracts:

Zambrano - $17.8, $17.8, $18

Baker - $1

Westbrook -$11

Wood - $10.5

Peralta - $4.8

Club options not included

Indians get Zambrano for app $25 million over 2 1/2 years. Cubs financial burden could end after season.

Out of all the proposals to trade Zambrano that we're bound to hear, I most certainly like this one the most.

Although if Kerry Wood's was some random guy who had spent his whole career with the Indians I would probably hate it.

Why would the Indians take on any money when they could just let those 3 walk after the year and be free of the money?

The problem with trading Zambrano isn't that he is a bad teammate with anger issues. The problem is that he is a bad teammate with anger issues who sucks at pitching. You want an example of what you get for bad teammates with anger issues who suck at what they get paid to do.....look at the Milton Bradley trade. You don't get to trade a bad player AND get another team to pay him for 2 years after you trade him unless you get to pay for their bad player for a similar amount of time and money.

I think that is the first time I have ever been grammar checked on this board.

I edited the post. When I originally posted it, that was correct. Forgot to change that after the edit.

I failed to realize that the Indians could just let all those guys walk after the year. So, though I would deeply enjoy it, I'd say the odds are resting somewhere around 0.

Maybe Toronto doesn't believe in the resurgence of Vernon Wells. We could trade Zambrano for Wells and trade Byrd for a minor league pitcher. Those outfield contracts would be gruesome though.

We'll probably end up with a straight-up trade for Carlos "Bone on Bone" Beltran.

I could only hope...
