Damn is Vitters ever in a slump.

PS, can we really not use Diamond for anything? Could he be converted for a BP role?

If guys are making contact but the hits aren't dropping in I don't really worry. That's the case for Vitters right now.

I've been pimping Diamond since we picked him up.

Cabrera with a MUCH better outing today. Still only a 3:2 K:bb ratio, but 6IP and 1ER is so much better than before.

Glad to see I'm not alone there.

Diamond's final line: 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 8 K, 5-4 GO-FO

Not too shabby. His ERA currently stands at 2.01.

JJax gave up a leadoff double to Hank Conger, but then pitched out of the jam.

And Rusin actually gave up two walks tonight, tripling his total for the year.

Argh!

Smokies down 1 in the ninth. leadoff man gets on with a single. Vitters up with a chance to be a hero and...

they have him bunt.

friggin morons.

Im a big Diamond fan as well, but theres really nowhere to put him. Too bad we can have a 9 man rotation of Z/Lilly/Demp/Wells/Silva/Gorz/Diamond/Cashner/Jackson.

It ended up working out in the end, though.

Still, that was a really dumb idea.

It worked because the pitcher proceeded to walk the next two guys.

I hate bunting.

Robinson Chirinos started the game at C for the Smokies, but was PH for in the 1st. Weird.

Also, on a related note, I forgot to mention yesterday that LHP Dustin Sasser was taken out in yesterday's Smokies game. The recap lists a soft ground ball hit to him, he made an error, and then an injury delay occurred, with Muyco coming in to replace him at pitcher. Hope he's okay.

J Jax goes 3 IP with 3 H 1 BB 2 K, and with that, his ERA goes down to a sparkling 1.99. He has yet to give up a run since converting to the bullpen, but who cares when we got Bullet Bob Howry for cheap.

He's pitched six consecutive games in relief. The last five have been scoreless. He gave up one earned in one inning in the first relief appearance.

Chirinos suffered a concussion when he was hit with a foul ball in the top of the first.

I think waiting another week with Jackson to call him up is the smart thing to do. When you are this close to June, might as well wait until June, when the chances of Jackson getting Super Two status in a couple years are slim to none.

That's a good point and I wouldn't be worried. With Z returning to the rotation for the Pirates series someone is going to be bumped into the bullpen. I assume they'll wait until after that is settled to bring in Jackson for somebody.
